No spoiler on new car!

No spoiler on new car!

Postby jth877 » Fri Nov 18, 2005 10:34 pm

Well, it took about a month to get here. I ordered a SE V6 with the sunroof and Con. package. I thought it included a rear spoiler. It did not. The sales person was a complete ditz (tried to convice me the car was built in japan!). Is there a place to get an OEM factory spoiler? This could be a walk away situation if I can't get an OEM one on there.

Is it the AUTO or MANUAL? What "package" does it have on it. For upstate NY, any option package includes the spoiler.

For MANUAL SE:
Option Combination #A $200
- Rear Spoiler(RF)
Option Combination #B $1,100
- Power Tilt/Slide Moonroof(SR)
- Rear Spoiler(RF)

For AUTO SE:
Option Combination #A $200
- Rear Spoiler(RF)
Option Combination #B $1,100
- Power Tilt/Slide Moonroof(SR)
- Rear Spoiler(RF)
Option Combination #C $1,490
- 8-Way Power Adjustable Driver's Seat w/Seatback Pockets(PE)
- Power Tilt/Slide Moonroof(SR)
- Rear Spoiler(RF)

I saw what toyota lists on their webite as packages and it is not even close to what they really have. The SZ package ($1440) does not include a spoiler though it is the most expensive package. The car was intended for a dealship in Boston, but got diverted to NY for me from the factory. It seems strange to drive around a loaded solara and not have a spoiler while I see just about every 4cyl SE with one :-( I got a good deal ($50 over invoice) so I don't mind taking the car if I can get a factory spoiler for a decent price.

SZ - 8 way pwr seat, 17" wheels, V6, 6cd, 270w JBL, and some other crap.

SR- sun roof

CF- floor mats/ trunk mat

WL- wheel locks

Absolutely Red, if that makes a difference

try ebay... they have the same "style" as OEM for under $200 painted. I'm not sure if they're OEM.

Talk to dealer, ask to speak with General Manager...flat out, you want the car, expected a spoiler but it didn't come with one like it would have if ordered for NY market. Offer him $200 for factory OEM spoiler, painted, installed. Stick to your guns. He won't loose a deal for such a minor thing.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I don't think they would like to loose a deal. I looked at the car today because the dealership is 5min down the road and I like it much better now that I saw it in day light.

jth877 - Albany, NY - Gen 2 spoiler

Postby michaels artic frost » Sat Nov 19, 2005 11:03 pm

If you're wanting the spoiler, I'd recommend you purchase it with it on the car already.

As mentioned above, there's the one on ebay that looks like the Gen 2 oem one, but it'll be a pain in the butt to install. You'd have to drill quite a few holes for the installation and I'm sure they'll charge you an arm and a leg for it too.

Just my 2cents.

GL anyhow.

Completely agree with Mike. Also, consider this...if it is not installed by the dealer or factory, then it doesn't fall under warranty. Where this becomes important is that holes are drilled into trunk. If not sealed properly and gasketed right, you can have water and rust probelms....not covered by warranty if not done by Toyota.

I agree with the posts above. Don't buy it unless it is just like you want it to be. That is exactly why you are buying it new, to have it just like you want it; if it were a used vehicle at a lower price, then there is room for compromise. Be happy or it will suck when you have to send in the check every month for a car that is doesnt quite do it for ya.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going try and get t he dealer to put one on. I'll still take the car w/o a spoiler. It still looks nice.

BTW- What's up with the factory tires. They have the worst rating on tirerack.com. I'll be replacing those next year with some respectable rubber.
