Postby solaris » Fri Sep 30, 2005 5:28 am

i bought a v6 coupe 2nd week of sept. and i'm just wondering if it still possible. i'm having this throttle lag and i want to have it fixed but there's no TSB for 2006 model. i dont want to drive my car like that. i bought a new car to enjoy it not to hate it. so please tell me what are my options here?
thanks

Some brands (Saturn is the only one that comes to mind) will allow to return a car within a certain time/mileage period. I'm not familiar with Toyota having such a policy.

Assuming you've taken a mechanic on a ride with you, what are their thoughts on this?

If the lag didn't come out (or wasn't pronounced enough to objectionable) during the test drive, what has changed in the interim?

SPF has a very valid point... I assume you purchased the car without any previous knowledge about the lag or the "TSB Lag Fix", and I also assume that you were happy with your test drive if you put down your hard earned cash for the car... I believe the late 2005 models and up have the lag issue already corrected (if you drive a 2004 without the fix you will know what the lag truly is)... What exactly do you experience when your car lags? What changed from your test drive?

i didnt notice the lag when i test drove it simply because we're not on a heavy traffic. we drove it on a smooth nice highway and was satisfied with the handling, brakes, suspension etc. the lag happens when you're near a red light (you'd normally slow down till you stop) but it changes to green and you hit to accelerate, there is a bit of hesitation to move forward sort of a jolt. it happens also when you're in heavy traffic and it's very annoying.

i have a 2006 also, i havent experienced this.A friend of mine bought a brand new toyota corolla, they wouldnt let her return it but the salesman came out to her job and picked up the car and left her his personal own car to use while they did service on it.And to be quite honest with u the freakin car still had some problem with it after they worked on it.I think toyota should do there best and get ur problem fixed.isnt there something called a lemon law ,would that be considered in it, just curious

I have a 2000, but I bought it just last year. I'm not sure if the warranty's different but I bought mine from a Toyota dealership and they offered me that option. If I found anything wrong with my car 1 month after the pick-up date, they would either repair/replace it for free, or if it was major they would get me another Solara with the same options or better at no charge. Was an offer I just couldn't refuse :D

Might it be possible you're experiencing a normal delay as your car's automatic transmission changes gears?

Unfortunately, the lemon law probably doesn't apply. It's actually different from state to state, but generally you have to bring the car to the dealer at least 4-5 times for the same problem, and if the problem is not solved then you can invoke the lemon law. However, you still have to go to court, etc, etc. What's worse is that there was a federal agency that investigated the lag claims (was it the EPA ?? I don't remember), and decided that there was nothing wrong with it. That was at about the same time that Toyota decided to come out with a TSB for the lag on the 2004-2005 models. Coincidence? Maybe not. But for mild cases of lag, it would certainly help Toyota in a court case.

I have the exact same issue on my 2006 SLE Coupe. I plan to deal with the Dealer this week to see how/when they will fix it. I have no intentions in trading car back in...I have every intention of having Toyota fix the problem. My recommendation is to be very adament about getting it fixed, and make them provide a vehicle for you while it is in for diagnosis/repair. I'm not shy about going up the food chain at a dealership or even at Toyota, to get it done.

2006 Owners with Manumatics:
If you can switch to manumatic and drive in the same circumstances where you had lag in full automatic, is the delay lessened or not?

Just spoke with Dealership Service and they are aware of "LAG" issue, even on '06 vehicles. Spoke about recalibration, but needs to check what level vehicle is at to determine if they can upgrade. Going in Monday to do it. Gave me up front that:
(a) this will not eliminate the lag completely, but is noticeable
(b) make take up to several days before it sets itself in, as the computer has to adjust itself to my driving, etc.

Let's see how it goes, and I will repost after they do the work.
