There should be a warning tab, but as far as i understand it works when pads are REALLY low - i just exchanged my pads when they had about 1-2mm left on them.

Good point. This applies to everything related to the steering of a vehicle. Your hands will take you where your eyes go and if you are staring directly at your obstacle, guess where you are going?
