Changing tires after less than one year?

Changing tires after less than one year?

Postby project2k4SC » Sat Mar 19, 2005 12:38 am

hi guys yet again i have another question. Ive had my car for less than a year, 2004 SE sport 4-banger. I just recently checked my tires and it looks like i will have to replace all my tires. The tread is almost gone and the actual milage on the car is about 18XXX miles. Is this normal? any input will help. thanks again!

WOW :o ! Are you serious? All four? You rotate and balance often? What's your driving style?

Couple of thoughts

Comparing front tire to front tire and back tire to back tire is the wear the same i.e. inside, middle or outside tread? To Michael's points driving style will cause premature tire wear.

The only way that I can think of that would cause all 4 tires to be worn out is:

Very aggressive driving - tire spin, pushing hard through corners, drifting ;) - and you would have had to have rotated the tires to have the same type of wear on all 4 tires

If non of the above supply...possibly defective tires?/alignment?/balance?

i changed all my tires really early too... like around 12000 miles. had toyo proxies and dealer changed to michelins saying they wouldnt wear as quickly and have better traction.

i guess my driving style is sorta agressive. I have a heavy foot. I tend to floor it everytime i get a chance to. (to pass up those slow drivers on the road or on the freeway) I also like to take turns pretty hard too. I just work the crap out of my solara i guess. but i guess thats causing my tread to wear out. :( I also have toyo proxes. I havent checked if the fronts are more worn out than the back. How long should tires usually last?

I checked out toyo's website...they don't specify what the expected life of the proxes are. You may want to contact your local tire dealer that carries toyo and ask them to if they can provide your tire's life expectancy.

Good luck

18000 miles isnt bad if you drive hard. Generally speaking the grippier the tire the shorter the tread life. its a trade off. you have to find a balance thats good for you. If mileage is your concern get a tire with a high treadwera rating. If you go to WWW.tirerack.com and do a little research. they willtell you everything you need to know about tires.
