Navigation does not work while I am driving

Navigation does not work while I am driving

Postby vishnuna » Sat Apr 24, 2004 12:23 pm

I have a SOlara 04 SLE with Navigation. The problem is that I can't change destinations or show the POI when I am driving. I heard there is a defeat for that. I am a new owner and would appreciate it very much if somebody here could help me out.

Although when I come to a stop I can change the destination. A lot of my friends find it annoying as hell. I do understand I need to be careful while using the GPS but HELP !!!!!!!

You can only change destinations while stopped. When you are driving it will not let you change for safety reasons. Plus, it doesn't make sense to do what you want to do. Think about it. For the split seconds your eye and attention is on the nav system, you are bascially not aware of what's happening in front or the side of you. You are just waiting to have an accident. Why not wait until you get to a red light. Then you can change destionations if you have to. What's wrong with that?

It is a safety feature. Driving is stressful enough between idiots on cell phones, lack of patience, and people not paying attention. Add people that fiddle with their GPS while moving and driving will be even worse. :x

Wow, I wish I was lucky enough to be able to complain about the navi system; but I would have to have navi first. Anyway, I just wanted to say that it would be convenient to be able to change destinations while driving if there were a front seat passenger to do it. Toyota already has a sensor in the front passenger seat for the airbag(s), so they should have just tied that in to the navi as well. Yeah I know, the driver could still change it instead of the passenger, but that would be a good compromise between safety and convenience.

All you need to do is put something heavy on the passenger seat for the car to think someone is sitting there so that's not a smart idea. Locking out NAV is the safe thing to do. I know it sucks when a passenger is there but oh well.

There are 2 ways you can do this entering destination or anything for that matter while you're driving.

1. installing a simple switch in your speed sensor wire on the back of your nav unit. (this will fool the NAV by cutting the speed sensor input so it thinks it's not moving but will only give you 30 seconds before the Nav figures it out by the GPS signals AND you have to remember to turn it back on so the NAV will work properly)
2. "ANYTIME NAV MOD" - www.siennaclub.org
