Electrochromic Driver's Side Mirror

Has anyone installed a convex stick on Blind Spot Mirror onto the electrochromic Driver's side mirror?

Does it effect the dimming function of the mirror?

Thanks!

All of the mechanics are behind it. The sensor that reads the light values for those mirrors are on the rear view mirror I believe. I'm sure you're alright. It will just cover that section of the dimming mirror.

No need to have a convex mirror on either side mirror if you align your side mirrors correctly. Here is what you do. Put your head against the driver's side window and then set the left side mirror so you see just a little of the side of the car in it. THen move your head to the middle of the car in line with the rear mirror. Now adjust the right side mirror till you just see a little bit of the side of the car in it.

What you've done is set the mirrors out more and you'll now notice when looking at all three mirrors that there is now no overlap of what you see. So if while driving you check all mirrors regularly, there is no longer any blind spots and nothing can surprise you. You also have a wider view of your rear and can see more lanes on a highway. In addition, you don't have to turn your neck either way anymore. No more turning your neck to the left to try to look out that hard to see small rear window! I feel more relaxed driving now and more secure and my neck thanks me too. :D

I used to have blind spot mirrors too. My last one's lens fell out after about 2 or 3 years, and then I had to get it off to put on another one.

I ended up scratching the mirror bad. I think I may have slightly cracked the mirror too inside when I tried to yank it off, since looks like a deep cut in it, but you cant feel it.

So basically, its a real pain when its time for it to come off. I never replaced it.

Ive adjusted my mirrors after that, and now dont need the blindspot mirror anymore. Just set the mirrors so you can only slightly see the side of your car. Like slingshot said, it makes life alot easier on your neck.

I used to set my mirror so you only slightly see the side of your car but that still has a blind spot and the back view overlaps alot with the rear center mirror. What you have to do is actually touch your head to your side window when adjusting the left mirror to only slightly see the side of your car. When you move your head back to where it normally is, you don't see the side of your car at all. Only then will you get rid of the blind spot and have no rear view overlap. With my method of adjustment, if you look in all three mirrors, you should see no overlaps of the rear view at all.

A better stated than me explanation of how to set mirrors by the government:

I meant to do it with your head moved where you said. I figured you explained it already. You do get left with a little blind spot for smaller cars if you only adjust it from your normal driving position, so best is to do it with your head positioned where slingshot said for each mirror. You get a panoramic view of the rear and sides that way.

Thanks to all that replied. Not having my car yet, should be arriving the end of August, I can't test out your much appreciated, mirror adjustment methods.

I ordered a 2004 convertible and I am concerned about the limited rearview mirror coverage along with the blind spots created by the top in the right and left corners.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

With a convertible you have a much smaller rear window. I would adjust the side mirrors as I've said but make adjustments as needed for your less wide rear center mirror view. You might have to adjust side mirrors inward a little more than what I have selected. Set them so you have a panoramic view with all three mirrors and no overlaps.

you definately need to still err to caution w/ the convertible - the top does make it a bit tougher to see, but this should help

Took the advice

Postby online » Thu Jul 29, 2004 9:40 am

fyi...I took the advice (greatly appreciated) and adjusted my mirrors on my current vehicle (89 SHO with 194K and still running strong). It took a couple of days to acclamate myself (uncomforatble at first) but now its great.

Thanks again and I can't wait to get my new SLE rag top in a few weeks.

Good job!

It is true Most people complain who complain about blind spots usually don't have their mirrors setup correctly.
