Cheap Oil Catch Can Tutorial

After the newest oil catch can thread I became curious about how much crap I might collect on a 160K mile engine. So I picked up this oil catch can on ebay for only $15.

EBAY LINK

First off here is the kit as delivered. Quality seems fine I am sure it was made in china but it should work just fine.

To make it work for the solara you only need is 4 extra hose clamps a length of 3/4 in hose a little smaller than the stock hose about 2 or 3 inches long and a 3/8 adapter. Use the 3/8 adapter on the blue hose and 3/4 hose to go to the valve cover

Then I mounted the tank to the CPE heat shield

Then I used this hose size adapter it came with for my CPE intake

Finally I just cut the hoses to length and it was all done

Very nice.
I hate to endorse sending money to Beijing - but I would have to pay what Moroso etc. would charge for that!

Also serves another purpose. I assume that the inlet (from the cover) is at the top but ends in a pipe inside that goes almost to the bottom? And the exit (to the CAI) is all the way at the top?
The height is for a reason (not just to hold 750 ml), it's to allow oil droplets and vapor to "fall out" of the air, so less enters the intake manifold. :drinking:

Sorry to take so long to answer this I just did not have time to take mine apart and look. My friend just got the same one so I took a look inside. No pipes so the drops would not have as much of a chance to fall out. But I still think it does a better job than just a straight hose going back into the intake. Either way it was a fun cheap experiment and I have yet to have any issues with it. When It gets warm out I will take it off and take some pics of the inside so people and I can see what it collected if anything.

I know that this thread is hella old but I was just wondering how much oil was captured. I'm thinking about adding a catch can sometime in the near future and wanted to see how much I could possibly pick up.
