So I still rub...in front

So I still rub...in front

Postby mig0s » Mon Nov 22, 2010 5:00 pm

I got myself some 225/45/18 tires as people suggested, the ride is way more comfortable and fender gap is decreased further. But I'm rubbing from all the 4 corners. I heated the rears and hammered them in, so they are not much of a problem now (will hammer more after). But I'm still robbing in my FRONTS... I've searched and it seems like people only rubbed in the rear before rolling their fenders. How do I clear the rubbing in front??? That metal like is too skinny to roll...

My setup:
Tein+KYB
18x8, +40 all around (getting 5mm spacers in the back)
225/45/18 all around

Thanks

Time for you to slice away some of your fender liner/plastic splashguard, much like I did when I was still on springs/struts.

These sections were removed from the center section, closest to the top of the front tires.

So I just use a knife and trim it like that? Aren't the fender liner important?

Oh and btw, what was your setup?

The liners are important, hence why I didn't remove them completely. I initially used a knife (jagged), but then switched to some surgical shears for a cleaner cut. For someone like me with the cold-air intake extension, the liner in front of the tire (where my air filter sits) is the only thing that stands between me and hydrolock in wet terrain. My current setup is Megan Street coilovers, but my previous setup was Tein S-Tech front springs, Eibach Pro-Kit rear springs, and Tokico HP struts.

Ok so I guess I'll just go with 225/40/18 in the front with 225/45 in the back then... but I don't know if it will look weird since Teins lower the fronts more PLUS my front tires would be smaller, therefore lower in the front more....

What tires you've got when you were on springs?

I run 225/40/18 all around. Just keep your tire sizes the same all around, otherwise it just throws off the dynamics of the car. 225/45s should be fine, just jack the car up, pull off the wheel and cut away a big enough section around the area where the tire rubs. It'll be obvious where the rubbing occurs, as you can kind of tell in my pic.

Alright I'll try to get some pics... but is it me or you rubbed in the interior side? I'm sure that I'm rubbing on the outer edge.

That was the outer edge of the passenger side fender. The liner actually slopes up as you go further into the fender, so interior edge rubbing isn't a problem (at least not until I lower the car more).
