Alright I've got a deal from some guy in my local area for some Gen.1 TRD SPRINGS + TRD STRUTS for 350$. They have less than 10k miles on them. The thing is I've made some searches and a LOT of people are having problems with TRD struts and the springs only lower about 1.25 inches...

So I decided to take on some other springs with KYB Gr-2's but I've searched everywhere and the best price I can find (it's on Ebay) is 160$ springs + 320$ shipped KYB gr-2's. That's a 480$ total for springs+KYB's and it's the best prices I can find.
I've always heard good things about KYB's until I've made some more searches here and found

DaTwUnKrAziEpInOy wrote:KYB Struts are the equivilant of OEM struts. Save up some extra money and go for the Tokico struts. Also yes 99 - 03 Solaras share the same suspension.

Ruski wrote:save up and get tokico are performance ..Kyb are oem replacements..

Ruski wrote:yes konis are good too. but kybs even gr2 are oem replacements.. asx are performance type.. but they cost a lot more , so why not jsut get tokicos :)

So what do I do?!?!? Get used TRD springs+struts for 350$ despite the problems from the struts or new lowering springs+KYB's for fricken 480$???

Who has had problems with TRD struts?

I'm under the assumption that they're pretty much the best struts you can buy for our cars.

Ive install plenty of trd struts with no issues, only thing i can think of is bad strut mount making noise.

Just buy it from the local dude. Sell the trd springs and pick up a set of teins stechs or eibach prokits for a better drop.

The shocks do not determine ur drop, springs do.

go with the TRD's probably the stiffest strut you can go with other than coilovers. your going to regret later down the road that you didnt get the trd's instead.

Yeah but after what I've found here, so many people had problems with TRD struts (clunking noise, eating up strut mounts etc.)...

clunking noise is due to strut mounts and they are not expensive. Personally i have never heard anything bad about them.

I have KYB struts and they are good. Allot firmer then stock, but then again my stock ones had 100k miles on them so they were prob worn out.

Anything you do will be a huge improvement over old worn out stock stuff... so don't worry about it much. Just put in new struts and lowering springs and you will be happy

Clunking can only occur due to bad strut mounts, there's nothing within the strut cartridge that could make that sound.

Thanks y'all for the info... The strut mounts I see on Ebay (KYB) are like 80$ each.. I guess I would need 2 new front ones. Anyways I'll go with the used TRD springs+struts I guess!
