stock intake box not closing shut

I got myself a Spectre air filter, 887351. It looks like the KN filters, but not that brand. So after I put it in, the stock intake box isn't closing shut? The latches don't match up and can't clamp it. If the box can't be fully closed, is that a problem? I think the rubber from the filter is too thick. Anyone has the Spectre filter and the same issue? What should I do?

check and double check that you put it in correctly.
then, i would cut off enough rubber to make it clamp shut.
it should be a tight fit, not so tight that it doesn't close though.
i would never run my car with any chance of dirt getting in the intake,
this is the first toyota i've owned and i wanna see how long she can last.
