Quick Injen Question

Quick Injen Question

Postby gnaw_divad » Wed Apr 21, 2010 7:32 pm

2000 SLE V6

I just bought a replacement filter for my Injen Intake (cold air conversion).. I bypassed trying to clean that thing after I saw how dirty it was. Does anyone know if the replacement comes pre-oiled or should I buy the oil with it?

THX

If it's a half decent brand, it should be pre-oiled right out of the package.

the oil is red right? ~ so if the filter comes and it is red instead of grey.. then it should be oiled? Am I correct?

^Yep. The oil is red so that you can see where it is applied.

There is an extension that was available at one time for the Injens. You have to run the pipe out of the engine bay into the area behind the foglight. So yeah, it fits. Don't expect to be able to buy one now though. You can however make your own.

I think that mine is past the point of cleaning/re-oiling (been doing that for the past 9 years), so I'm actually replacing it with a slightly larger K&N model.

the dirtier the filter, the better it filtrates.

air flow on the other hand...

Mr_Krispy1183, I know exactly what you mean.. I think I've had mine for nearly 9 years as well.. It's actually in pretty good shape for being used that long.. but changed it out about 10 minutes ago and it feels like a new ride..

Now, it's been a LONG time since I last really worked on my car so I'm a bit out of practice. When I first installed the cold air extension years and years ago, I never got the bracket to line up with the screw hole perfectly.. hence the extension rubs against the body slightly.. Is everyone else with the extension able to line it up perfectly and get the screw in? Any suggestions.

Secondly, when I was installing the filter I checked all the connections again to make sure everything was running smoothly. (I hate taking the dang bottom covers off so I make sure it works before putting it back together). Anyways, I can hear a slight hissing sound or a sound that air is escaping. I can't pinpoint whether it's actually coming out somewhere or if it's just the air traveling inside the piping.. I checked all the connections and they all seem fine.. anyone else getting the sound..

I am running slightly lean according to my A/F but besides that.. no problems...

BTW: SLE V6 SUPERCHARGED w/ 5.5 PSI Pulley..

^David,

regarding getting the extension to line up, it's always luck of the draw. Perhaps if you do what I did and enlarged the opening, it might give you a bit more wiggle room to try and line everything up and get the bolt/rubber to hold it up as well. Mine was rubbing too, so I pulled it out and used metal snips and a hammer to trim/fold the opening more to get it a bit wider, so that the extension pipe wouldn't rub or sit on the the actual metal in the passage.

The angle in this pic is terrible for the point I'm trying to illustrate, but oh well. As you can see, there is still a slight kink in how the extension sits, but it's still close to being straight, and the little rubber grommet lines up just right to hold up the pipe.
