TRD rear sway bar issues

TRD rear sway bar issues

Postby minig646 » Thu Mar 04, 2010 2:12 pm

My rear sway bar has been squeaking like a rusty gate all winter, and I can't take it anymore. I'm very close to losing my sanity. I don't have the tools/knowledge to take it apart to lubricate it, and I won't pay my mechanic $80 every 6 months to do it for me. Lubricating it without taking it apart does NOTHING to help the squeaking.

I can't even feel any real handling improvements- it still wallows like a boat through fast corners, and its on the track setting. If there isn't some easy fix for all this, I'm going back to the stock sway bar. Its lower maintenance, and as far as I can tell, just as good.

Rant over.

its once a year maintenance...i dono how you are so upset over this.

Take the bolts off, take the bushing off, wrap the bar where the bushing meets with Teflon tape, a 3-4 layer coating should be just fine. put the bushing back on, wrap 2-3 coats of teflon tape on that then put the bracket back on and bolt it in....

What tires are you running?

What other suspension mods have you done?
Trust me, I'm a technician.

This is the only thing I've done to my suspension. Everything else is stock. It hasn't been a year, its been a few months. And no I'm not sure its on track setting, but the guy at the shop put it on the setting that he said would be stiffest. I just wish I had a lift or even a jack and some know how. Im just worried that too much installing and removing will damage something...

I've never done anything on my car beyond changing sparkplugs and checking the oil. Is this something that would be easy for a noob? Or should I just take it to a shop and have pros do it?

If it's on the track settin' the bolts should be in the holes the closest to the bar.

As "Dawgz" said telfon tape the bar where the bushin' meets, and then put some white lithium grease on top of that.
No squeaks will eva come unless you drive in lot of high water.

A floor jack doesn't cost much either....

There are other reasons why you car still feels like stock handlin', it's cause you just have the TRD rear sway bar......
You have to add move stuff to the suspension so that it will handle better.
Tire will help, so will lowerin' the car, and chassis braces that Ultra Racing offer.

^x2 Stiffer Struts/lowering springs and make sure all your suspension components are in good shape then you'll feel a bigger difference :)

its easy fix man... you can use that wheel lift, get another one from another car and lift both side up, but make sure you block it somehow. From there on, its just unscrewing the bolts and its out
