LSD Speedo Drive Gear

LSD Speedo Drive Gear

Postby EricSol » Sun Jan 17, 2010 9:46 am

I have the KAAZ LSD installed with the MR2 bigger ring speed gear. The speedo drive gear on my VSS is stripped, need the part number for the correct one. Can't remember if you use the one off a '91 MR2 (mechanical speedo) or '92 (Electric).

I forgot about the different drive gear on the KAAZ and installed a speedo gear for a Solara, lasted a week b4 stripping but seemed to display the correct speed.

Thanks, Eric

That is for the gear at the end of the vss or the one on the LSD itself? I need the one at the end of the vss.

*most* of the LSD's require the 93+ MR2 LSD differential gear bolts and the 93lsd speedo gear & retaining clip

The gear at the end of VSS was a 28-35 (stock 99 solara). I has 28 teeth and I'm assuming the 35 is a reference to pitch. The MR2 I ordered was a 30-35, lets hope it lasts longer then a week.

The MR2 gear is a couple of mm's less in diameter. Went out last night and hung the thing at redline in 5th gear with no issues. The stock Solara gear strips at 100mph, this one was fine at 142mph + 8% ~ 155mph. Yeah the speedo's 8% slow now......
