isn't that "gutter guard" mesh similar to the home depot mesh in bulding materials? if so, i dont think it looks that great on cars. Unless the one you are talking about looks different??

It shouldnt chip when he paints it. Bondo is PRETTY strong.

I used Evercoat body filler...better than Bondo
The reason i used body filler was because when you cut the original grille out it leaves a bunch of plastic which i then sanded down. After sanding the plastic it becomes rough and even if you use a finer sand paper it will not look smooth when painted. I tried sanding most of that filler off though to avoid any chips but you are right...it could happen later on
which is why I think it would of been better to first fiberglass over the plastic and then a thin layer of body filler over it...but i decided to just try this first and see how it goes

you'll be ok, a good paint job will help it from cracking as well. now are you painting it yourself or a body shop ?

If your gonna spray paint it, use clear coat as well. The bug guts that accumulate on it will eat the paint right off.

lol definately will take your advise. btw i mounted grille back on car. I had to only cut a small portion of the plastic on bumper to get it back on and it fit perfect again. painted the mesh black just now and its drying so tomorrow during the day i will take a photo of it again so you guys can see how nice it looks before i give it few touch ups
