Heat insulation

Heat insulation

I'm putting on Jim's Fuel Mod and decided to put heat insulating tape on the hoses. I read here that some people had experienced cracking? This tape insulates up to 2000 Deg of radient heat and also protects the hoses as well. Perhaps it will keep the fuel cooler too. As an after thought, I decided to put the tape on my intake pipe and filter shield.

I found this post interesting..he found an actual (measured) LOWERING of intake temps (10-15 Deg) with insulation of the intake.

Here's a quote:
"This is the test results and I’m curious how they compare to anyone else. Do you think this actually reduced the intake temp at all? I only ran once with my scangauge and no insulation. At 50 ambient, my highway temps were between 69-73 at highway speed, without insulation.

After wrapping everything up, outside temp was still 50. On the highway at speed, the intake hovered between 55-57 degrees, even after a few runs of getting on it and testing out the horse power feature on the scan gauge."

THAT pic looks EXACTLY like my wrap job! I used reflective tape as well.

Here's another link with same type info. I like the fact these guys actually MEASURED the intake temps before and after.

Hey guys. I have some Fiberglass intake wrap for those of you who want to lower your intake air temp. I used it on my custom intake for a about 2 months, but i just changed intakes so i no longer need it anymore. I attached my Temp sensor to it so I could monitor my air intake temps with and without the fiberglass wrap.

Aluminum pipe:
Without FG: 115-120 degrees F

With FG: 95-100 degrees F.

It consitantly kept the Aluminum intake pipe about 20 degrees cooler all the time and it never went higher than 120F (and i live in Houston, TX). If you want to keep your intake temperature down then its really worth it. I also have pictures if any of you want to see it.

i measured the temp of my intake air also with my obd2 live data reader and in stop and go traffic it would reach 170-180 and the wrap kept the temp down 35 deg on my SRI consistantly and now with the CAI extention it hasnt been above 90 deg so far. we will see how well it does in the hot months
