Quest for Automatic Headlights

Quest for Automatic Headlights

Postby cityofglass » Thu Feb 26, 2009 11:42 am

Well I finally have my seat heaters on order; just in time for Louisiana summer. As soon as they come in and I randomly find some free time I'll post how it went. My questions is on automatic healights. My old car had them, but my 02 Lara Conv SLE doesn't. I do a lot of computer work with electronics and am VERY interested in finding an old junked Lara and swiping the relays, switches, controls, etc from it's light control system and implementing it into mine. I have found a few wiring diagrams for reference, and I think it just might work.

Am I alone on this quest? Perhaps the first gen 1.5 conv lara with auto healights.

Any insight? Suggestions? Please.

your car has daytime running lights all ready. Unless the previous owned disabled them. if so its as easy as hooking up a old connection

Yeah, the daytime running lights work great. However, the 1.5 solaras don't have the option that switches the 35% intensity daytime running lights to full intensity headlights at night. I don't understand why, but the gen 1's had this option and they discontinued it for the 1.5's.

I guess no one liked the auto headlights when the Gen 1 came out. Most Gen 1 owners disconnected their auto headlights, including me. Me personally, I could not stand not being able to turn off my lights when its dark.

So, why do you want the auto headlights?

We have had this discussion before I think. The fix I thought was to tint the sensor.

That was a different discussion. Your thinking of the guy that wanted his auto headlights to come on sooner. Cityofglass has a 1.5, his Gen doesnt have auto headlights. So I think he is gona try installing the sensor off a Gen 1 on his 1.5.

I disconnected my sensor all together, DRL and all. I have HIDs so I had to disconnect the DRL anyways.

Well I had auto headlight on my old acura and throughly enjoyed them. I build custom pc's and am always trying to find ways to modify things. I'm not a racer and this car has enough horsepower for my tastes, so I'm looking to teidle with this car and thought this might be a neat project after the heated seats install.

Well not entirely. I have built custom pc's in the southern Louisiana area for the last five or six years. Mainly just modified cases and unique designs. I work for the Geek Squad, but I am prusueing two bachelors in Business Pre Law and Culinary for a career in Hospitality Management.

This was completely off topic, but i have a question. I have never delt with junkyards before. Anyone have an inclination as to how much they would charge me to get all that?
