Aftermarket Axles & Driveshaft

Postby RichieRichJP » Sat Dec 01, 2007 2:34 am

First off, I was wondering if the Manual V6 Solara's axles are the same as the turbo MR2 axles because both cars have the same transmission?
Also, can the turbo MR2 driveshaft be used in e153 Solara transmission?

I'm asking because I'm in need of better axles and driveshaft for my Camry when I do the 5spd swap and I'm looking for a upgrade (from driveshaftshop.com) to handle atleast 500ft lb/tq.

Thanks

Are you gonna also funny build your motor, internals and all? You know the stock motor will never handle that kind of power.

ummm....why do you need a driveshaft for your camry? are you doing a rear wheel drive conversion? also, the mr2 doesn't have a drive shaft....the engine/tranny is sitting in the rear of the car where the drive wheels already are...

and the mr2 axles and camry axles are different if I remember correctly. Which should also be common sense since the mr2 and the camry use different chassis and one is front wheel drive and other one is rear wheel drive

and the 5-speed camry axles should be able to handle 500ft/lbs of torque

Astro,
I'm getting a GT35R for my custom turbo set up, I'm just waiting for it to arrive. I already have forged pistons, head studs, connecting rods and all sort of crap for the motor so I'm expecting big numbers once I do engine work.
Eye8Pussies, I wasn't sure if I'd need any part of the driveshaft for the tranny thats why I was asking about that and I wasn't aware of an MR2 not having a driveshaft.
Also, I'm still looking to get custom CV Axles because I plan on doing street drag Unlike TonyTheTiger, he has an auto and a stretched out powerband and I feel that it's probably still necessary to upgrade the CV's. Plus Ihear of MR2 CV axles breaking even under 300ft lb/tq.
I'm expecting to put out a lot of power off the line and from what I understood, Camry CV axles are weak.

I remember Justin had a set of custom axles for sale... I don't know if he still has them.

It's a boosted 5sfe. I honestly don't think I'd put down that much torque on a 5sfe, but I want to be ready just in case it actually does happen. There are a lot of mods that people haven't done on their 5sfe yet that I'm going to do to the engine, so I'm optimistic that I'll reach those goals. With the mods that Allen had on his old 5sfe set up (which got 275hp), he maxed out his turbo and he had minor mods and expensive crap. I'm going with a larger turbo, larger injectors, full engine management, custom camshafts, custom valves and several other things on top of his set up. So I'm not doubtful of reaching my goals.
Thanks for the info Milt, I'll try get at Justin on those axles.
