K & N Questions

I already searched and couldn't find the answer to my two questions. They should be quick simple answers anyways, so:
1) Does just the Stock Replacement filter give a differnent sound?
2) Does the Filter affect gas mileage at all?

I ask because someone told me the car sounded better with a K&N Air Filter (Acura 3.0), and someone else said it decreased their mileage, while another said it made it better.....I figgered I'd ask the experts

hey dude, I was in your seat last week trying to figure out if intakes and filters are good for the car or not. I'm still no expert, but I've been told that getting a good Air Filter is better for the car, mileage wise. It's what I've heard. Not too sure. Just wait from some top dawg moderators to reply. I'm sure you'll get your answer there.

I have the k&n "high flow" drop-in stock replacement filter (2az-fe). In my case, I hear a whistle sounds around 2000-3000 rpms (depending on actual speed) and get slightly higher milage than the stock filter (although it's not too noticeable... but I do see myself going to higher rpms a lot more and getting slightly better milage) Rice rocket drivers look at me funny sometimes... maybe the whistle sort of sounds like a really crappy turbo :P great fake outs haha
1GR-FE ftw!

1) The K&N drop in gives more of a throatier sound than the stock filter.
2) Improves your mileage but not by much.

The filter is more piece of mind than anything because 1) the filter is washable and reusable 2) It's much more free flowing than the oem paper filters.

It does have a throatier <sp> sound. You notice it more with the 5 speed.
Had a 99 Solara SE V6. Had a 06 Tacoma. Now I have a 2008 Camry SE V6
