Postby JBeRzErKeR » Sat Jan 25, 2003 6:38 pm

Hey guys, i've got a 2002 Celica and i'm lookin to get rid of it to buy a Solara this spring....I am just doing some shopping right now to get all my toys....the question I've got is......what kind of bolt pattern, offset and rubber sizes would I need for 18's? and what if I go with 19's???

Do a search, you'll find all the info you'll need. But here you go anyway:

18's for Solara-

Bolt pattern- 5 x 114.3

Offset- Get 42mm. Otherwise you will likely rub. I have 18 x 8's with a 40mm offset, and my rear fenders rub. I now have to shave a little off the inside rear fenders (not a big deal, but still avoidable).

Tires: Go for 235/40. 225's will be too small. I got 225's at first, and they looked too narrow and small. 235's look way better.

19's? I hear you need a 35mm offset (but not 100% sure). Do a search, and you'll find what you need.

How come you want a Solara? Celica has way better handling IMO... just lack some backseat space.

People usually go for 7.5 width max so it won't rub with the correct offset.

235/40/18 is closer to stock size, but I heard 235 will rub.
225/40/18 wouldn't look that bad IMO.

The offset really depends on the width of the wheels but not the diameter.

IMO 19's look way too big. 18's will look perfect.

I have a tire question so I just thought I'd throw it here-

I'm getting ready to get my new tires (yoko avses100's) and wheels (konig blatant opals 8) and maybe I'm being anal here but I'd just like to hear a little reinforcement before I do this. I'm going with 18's and I currently have the tokico/eibach combo and am wondering how noticable the improvement will be in handling/cornering and what not. Especially at higher speeds around corners. I'm on snow tires right now with oem 16's and it pretty much sucks, so I know I'll see an improvement but I'm hoping that this some $1500 upgrade will make quite an improvement other than looks. thanks!

You will notice the difference with the new tires/wheels compared to your OEM stuff. Even with the eibach/tokico combo. You will be quite pleased.

Difference is very significant when you have suspension upgrade, but also, keep in mind that there are more chances to bend your rims as you go lower profile.

Great, that's what I was hoping to hear. I'm already looking at roads that I need to stick clear of so I'll be sure to be careful. I'm thinking I may go with a rear sway bar sometime in the future as well to further reduce body roll/sway. Can't wait to get me some new wheels/tires :D Thanks for the help-

The tires make all the difference :D

The RSB is by far one of the best upgrades you can do, and probally the best upgrade for the money. For $150 do it ASAP

I am totally in agreement with Yanks. The RSB made a huge difference in my cars handling prowess. As for tires on your 18's, I run 225- 40's and think they look great.

I agree with them also... i have 18x7.5 with 225/40 tires with the 45MM offset i dont have any problems with them.... i packed my car one day with 6 people i drove around taking hard turns and didn't hear a single rub... 235 are little bit bigger.. so you might get some rubbing..im getting front sway bar so that i can handle the road and have better turns... the front and rear sway bars will be the best purchase u will make and buying the rims.. besides buying the solara
