This post is a little long but please read I would like your opinions. I know I posted this before, but this time I have my decision narrowed down to two wheels. As most of you probably know Ive been trying hard to save up for some new rims for my solara. The problem is Im having a hard time trying to save. I am currectly in my 4th year in college and I have one more year to go. (5year program). Everytime I get a paycheck it always has to go to my carpayment, rent, creditcard, or other living expenses.

Back to the wheels I actually made the decision of saving for the 18 in black ASA AR1's from tirerack. My problem is I dont know if ill ever get the money for these wheels. The total with shipping is $912.72 from tirerack. But there is another wheel I really like which is the ASA EM9 wheel. It costs $592.72. The only problem with this wheel is the fact the the largest size it would come in is a 17in rim and there is no dish. They look really nice and they are similar to the rims on the volkswagon jetta gli. I almost bought a brand new jetta gli but they cost 25k at the time so I had to get my 10k solara.

The ASA EM9 is a 17x7 wheel with a 40 offset. I would put 215/45 tires on these wheels (I think this offset will work with this rim)
The ASA AR1 is a 18.8 wheel with a 40 offset. I would put 225/45 tires on these wheels. Also do you guys think a black rim would look good on my car with the color it is. Check out my Cardomain website to see the color.

From a practical honest stand point what wheel do you guys think i should get. Do you think i should take longer and save for the black ASA AR1's or make life a little easier in my finacial life and get the ASA EM9's. I like the AR1's a little better but I can definatly sport the EM9s. Please let me know what you think. And thanks for taking the time to read this long post and helping me out.

I agree with Jimmy here. If you have any financial worries at all, you shouldnt be spending any money on rims. Rim money should only be excess cash. Same thing with all the other nice junk we guys such as big tvs and sweet speaker systems.

Once you get that degree and get that job, and you are making more cash, you can get whatever you want. I remember when I was in college with a part time job, i was in no position to get anything for my car.

And besides, you still need to get tires for those wheels, and 18"s cost more than 17" tires.

As you know, I am partial to the Black ASA AR1s. Unless something better comes out (better is subjective here), I still will be getting these rims next year. And btw, 17x7 @ 40+ will fit no problem. In fact, with 7" wide rims, you can probably go anywhere from 35+ to 42+.

But I still think you should get the 18's for yourself as a present after you find a job after graduation. Then youll have really earned it and it wont hurt you wallet as much. I think im getting mine with my year-end bonus money after the winter weather clears up.

I personally prefer the black rims but dropping $4K on rims when you're not established in the job market sounds like to me to be a bad idea.

FWIW, my wife and I have a dental practice and I'd be hard-pressed to justify dropping that much money on a set of wheels.

Its 9xx.xx for 4 rims. They are around 210 each + tax & s/h. They are cast, not forged

I was kindof hoping you guys were going to tell me the EM9s are nice and I should get those. I do love the ar1's. And I know you guys are saying wait till after college, so I can get what ever I want or a new car. Actually I did have a camaro, but i was too unreliable so I had to get a pratcial car for school. My intentions were not to mod the solara. But I grew to love it. (I was one of those guys that hating modified imports and just like muscle cars) But I just cant wait that long. And its not fair I see a bunch of other college kids with nice cars with tons of mods and wheels, and I have nothing to show. Im probably into cars more than those people too. Also I wont go into any debt doing this cause I do make sure I pay my living expenses first. I will only use the extra left over cash for these wheels. Thats why its taking me so long. And it kindof sucks cause that means I cant go out as much, but to me its worth every penny. I still cant make up my mind though. Go for the gold or settle for the silver but still be happy.

Agreed.

Especially "finacially impossible".

Theres no such thing as impossible. Things become possible with effort and patience.

And that is your daily fortune cookie.
