How did I miss this thread???????

It seems somehow I miss some of the knew threads.
Carbonall, maybe you can help me? I had a very bad, expensive experience with a carbon fiber hood and I'd like to ensure it really wouldn't happen again before considering it. I had a Fiber Images CF hood and it was difficult to shut. Ask other members here who saw mine in person, they were shocked when they saw I had to SLAM my hood to get it to close. I could be wrong but it looked like the Fiber Images hood was all cf too but I really don't know. It had a metal hook where it latched and seemed very strong. I adjusted the latch mechanism up as high as I could, even using a dremel to elongate a hole to slide it up just a little further with no help. Because I had to slam it to get it shut, hood pins would have been difficult and because the hood structure seemed so strong, I skipped the hood pins.
As you probably guessed already, my hood snapped on me going about 70-80mph on a small road. Smashed the windshield, dented the roof on both sides and did minor damage on the fenders where the hinge is. The metal loop that latches was still in tact, it did not brake off. In addition to the metal loop, on the metal hood, there is another metal piece that works as a safety I guess. On the Fiber Images hood, it was either cf or fiberglass. The hood catch ripped through that like a hot knife through butter.
Can you explain how this could be prevented without using hood pins? I would really like a vented cf hood if I knew it wouldn't pop. By the way, my car WILL see speeds in excess of 100mph often.

I also add a vote for the engine cover. I'm still thinking about other pieces but I like your explanation of the workmanship and I have money. -JoeB
