You can just as easliy swap your rotors when its winter time. Once you have the tires off its 10 minutes a side.

The rear V6's use rotors and calipers as well, just a MUCH smaller version. I'm sure the 4cyl uses the same front rotors so you'll be able to upgrade as well!

I wonder how much braking distance is this going to shorten compared to a 4piston/6piston setup.

Depends on the model. Not sure about Solara, but there are two sizes of front disks on i4 Camrys: 255 and 275 mm. v6 Camry and Solara has 275 mm in the front, so the larger i4 disks are the same, but the smaller are not.

Also, not sure if the caliper and the mounting points are the same even for the larger disk, though I hope they are.

For a i4 about $250 (at a minimum, if you get a complete assembly from a junk yard at a good price) will get you disk brakes in the rear - you can swap v6 rear disk brakes in place of your i4 rear drums.

I did this recently on my '00 LE and the braking is much improved - no fading, no vibrations, better pedal feel, more stopping power (the rear disk brakes seem to stop more than my drums). Check-out my post under DIY section here.
