Grill

Postby JMSinMaryland » Sat Aug 13, 2005 4:31 am

A)How about making it look like the one on the Lexus??

B) How about making little Toyota emblems for the entire grill? Jon.

WTF?? wrote:Not sure if you plan on installing that or not, but that mesh DEFINATELY will not fit... theres a bit of a curviture (sp?) along the top portion of the mesh...

i know this since i fukkd up one mesh i cut out... its NOT straight.... good luck

these designs do not have the correct perimeter you are right...they are just designs..i have yet to tranfer the dimensions of the grille into the computer..it is going to be a biatch to do and take some time...i have not recieved either of my test/backup grilles yet so no rush yet although i would like to have it done before they get here..

as far as the styles i will have to paint and actually get them on the car before i know whether they will look good or not

yeah i wonder what they will look like..i was going to wait for them but since i have the means and experience in fabrication i thought i would give it a shot..the things i am making will require work of some kind to install and im sure there are plenty that want no part of extra work if they have the choice..

this will be a low cost alternative i am sure but i dont want it to look like the lesser so i am taking my time to get it just right...the fitment that is

JUST AN UPDATE ON THIS..IT IS NOT TAKING THIS LONG BECAUSE IT WILL BE A CHEAP LOOKING GRILL INSERT..I AM CONFIDENT THIS THING IS GOING TO BE GREAT..SHOULD HAVE PICS IN A COUPLE DAYS

AND THE AMOUNT OF WORK THIS THING IS TAKING TO REVERSE ENGINEER YOU BET YOU ASSS I FEEL SELLING THIS IS THE ONLY WAY TO JUSTIFY THIS MUCH WORK..

AS A MATTER OF FACT THE UPPER IS DONE..WILL POST PICS OF THAT TODAY OR TOMORROW

WILL KEEP YOU ALL POSTED

oh does anyone know where i can find open area % needed for sufficient air flow? i can calculate what the stocker is but i am sure that is more than sufficient..and can be brought down w/out any impairment whatsoever

yes.. i have been busy..so this is going slow but going none the less..top section is done completely

still have the bottom to finish for the two pc overlay

and then the single pc to insert after grille is cut to just chrome frame

check my cardomain page for pics..i hate posting em here pain in the asss

here are some pics of the upper grille insert. this can be overlayed right over the factory "slots" ..this black does not look right because of the black in the backround..however if the metal was left bare..like a nice polished stainless, which is what the material is..it should dominate the front look and fade the backround stock slots away

i think optimally you will not be able to get around chopping the slots out to get the best look

some pics of the top..of course black on black doent look great but i am really interested in getting the whole grille filled after cutting the slots out, sanding, painting then installing the full area of the frame...i thought i would make these inserts first because it is a hell of alot easier..

i am starting the cutup proccess this weekend finally..i need to take it slow and take notes on what needs to be done . i would like to be able to offer some fairly easy directions to follow to do this for other solara owners

made it.. i fabricate/perforate metal for a living..

test grille is now just a frame..i was going to try and keep the chrome in tact but i nipped it a couple times w/ my die grinder so it will get sanded and painted black.

the whole thing will be black..ordering the trd emblems now..anyone know where i can get some emblems cheap that are different than the ebay type..i wish i could find some aluminum ones cheap..i dont like the thick sticker type..the kind that comes w. the trd ground kit is the best sticker type i have seen but they dont sell those..

this is different

i wanted this but the guy wont ship to us??
