EGR Removal?

Ok, so is it ONLY the Gen 3 where a simple resister makes the CEL light go off?

Thanks guys!

if the valve is still moving and the position sensor sees that then no CEL, is nothing there to measure the air flow
so you could replace the gasket with a thin plate and leave everything where it is and you're done, but like someone else stated above the purpose of the EGR isn't just emissions

I gained low end (Like REALLY low end) power when I took my EGR valve out.

Well honestly the biggest reasons for the delete for me is that it looks bad and is just mostly uneccesary....mostly. So if I can disable it but still have the crap hooked up it's pretty pointless.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

if it was that easy, none of our cars would have a CEL. but mine does, as do several others. and this thread wouldn't even be happening. it's not just the egr position sensor that it looks at. it also looks at the egr temperature sensor, and even the o2 sensors. i tried the resistor fix like i did in my gen3 camry, but it didn't work.

pretty much. gen3 camry doesn't have an egr position sensor, and even though the computer is obd-ii, it's not very advanced and can be tricked much easier than the gen4/solara ecu. i originally learned of the resistor trick from the mkiv supra forum - their obd-i and obd-ii computers weren't much different from the gen3 camry ecu. since they stopped selling the supra in 1998, they never saw the newer ecu and egr crap so they never had to deal with the problems we see when we block off the egr system.
