Megan Racing Springs

Just ordered

Postby RON » Fri May 22, 2009 12:24 pm

Just placed my order. I'll be giving feedback in a week or two. My H&R set up has a 3 ( around 2 3/8") finger gap in the back and 2 1/2 finger gap ( around 2 1/2") in the front. I think the extra 1/2" drop with the Megan springs will be just right (I hope :-? ).

Just do a search for Megan Racing Lowering Springs.....You'll find a range from around $100 to $150. I paid $108 plus $27 for shipping (no tax). I would CALL the vendor up if you have a 99-2001 (?) Solara, since they advertise the 97-2001 Camry only. These should fit any Solara of those years, since other spring sets are the same for Camry 97-2001 and Solara.

Examples of Megan Springs

Postby RON » Fri May 22, 2009 8:44 pm

OK..check out this MazdaSpeed site (man that's a SWEET CAR!). Lot's of pics and some show Megan set up..even before and after. You can also compare with other brands! The car at the top corner has Megan springs..it's also shown in the thread itself.

OK...I found this car using H&R set (my current springs) and it looks VERY much like my car now as far as drop.

I have original TRD Bilstein shocks...I'm sure they can handle those spring rates I listed. Typically, the spring rates for coil overs are at least DOUBLE those and require special shocks.

I was referring to a real coilover setup, which is the strut assembly as part of the package. I really don't see the need for such a drop, but to each their own.

Yes..I know that. That's what I meant by *special struts* which are capable of handling the spring rates in that set up. My TRD Bilsteins should easily handle the 300lbF/250lbR Megan springs. If you put those on STOCK struts, the car would BOUNCE like crazy! :o

I took these of the STOCK SPRINGS and the Megans. The fronts and rears for each are side by side, with rears on the left and fronts on the right. The Megans have a MUCH higher spring rate, so don't let the difference in the heights here fool you. I'll put them on my car next week with before (H&R springs now) and after (Megan) pics.

excited to see pics... might be lowering a solara with just springs soon. Some megan stuff is decent and some really sucks. I think their quality has gotten a lot better in the last year or so.

Springs on

Postby RON » Thu Jun 04, 2009 8:11 pm

Here is a pic BEFORE with H&R
[img]

After with Megans
[img][/img]

As you can see, the front remained the same (lower by 1.4"), but the back lowered an ADDITIONAL 2", for a total of around 3" lower than stock.
I have no rubbing problems with the rear, so I will leave it alone. I'm working with Megan to lower the front by another 1/2".

Here are close ups with Megan's:
Front
[img][/img]

REAR
[img]

Handling with Megans is MUCH better (higher rating at 300 F 250 R). The H&Rs were bouncy at times..the Megans are ROCK SOLID with a firm, yet reasonably comfortable ride. I like 'em.
I'll post again when/if I can lower the front a bit more. if not..so be it.

Tires are 225/45/17 on 17X7.5 Zigen rims

Watch out on the fronts...I can't go as low as rears there. Besides, it will effect your headlight range if too low. I think 2.0 up front is about it for me. I was really surprised that the 3' drop in the rear had NO rubbing issues. That's probably due to 43 offset with 7.5 width.
