Tire Size difference?

Tire Size difference?

Postby GeorgiatoAK » Tue May 31, 2011 4:51 pm

I have a 99 Toyota I bought a few months ago. V6, auto, came with all-season tires.

Well I live in Alaska and will need real snow tires like Blizzaks. I've chosen to find Blizzaks b/c it's usually the first choice of anyone moving up here.

I googled and found my tire size to be 205/65R15 for the 99. Yes I know I should also look at my current tire, but it's on the other side of the parking lot.

I'm only going to buy used (1-2 seasons) b/c we don't expect to live in Alaska after next winter. A $700 investment isn't all that smart when you know you're leaving and may not have time to sell them on Craigslist.

Well it's moving time for the military folks in these parts and I've been scouring the ads. I'm a noob when it comes to tires...I had a tire guy back in my hometown so he handled it all.

My question: is there another size that can also fit my '99 Solara? Anyone have experience using a slightly different size?

Also if anyone has any other recommendations on snow tires in a far north environment (i.e. Winnepeg, Fairbanks) that also gets icey, please speak up as well :D

Thanks
