Tire Pressure?

Tire Pressure?

Postby Toy1mzfe » Thu Jun 24, 2010 5:10 pm

Im about to drive down south then to vegas.

I always hear about tire pressure and make sure its correct and whatever. But since we upgrade our wheels and tires, i think the pressure should be different than whats on the door or manual. right?

so i got 18x8.5 with 225/40/18 in the rears
and
18x8 with 225/40/18 in the fronts.

With teins s-techs too.

So the question is:

Whats the pressure distribution difference from front and rears?

More pressure is told to be good on gas mileage from road trips?

Anyone know the info.. tire guys maybe..?

my tires are 225/40/r18,
the pressure specs on the door seem to be too low,
my car says the specs for the 15" and 16" stock wheels in the door jam, i noticed that the 16" wheels use more pressure than the 15" wheels, therefore 18" wheels should take even higher.
when i ran 32psi, the outside edges of the tire where wearing, so i bumped to about 37psi and im running that now,
im no expert but running 37 pounds is definitely better on my car than running 32 with this size rim.

Im runnin 225/45/ZR18
Nitrogen filled @35 PSI all 4 tires

Been runnin that for about 4 or 5 months now.
Brand new Hankooks when I bought them.
So far all four wheels look good.
Tires still look even, and new.
No sign at all of uneven tread-wear.

Im pretty sure i have 35 all around right now but the fronts look like they wearing out the edges more than before..

Maybe i should bump it to 37 in the front and leave it 35 in the rears. I was just wondering cause ima have a full trunk and 2 adults in the back. Im gonna be TUCKed hah.

whoops. I ran down and checked my tire and found out my fronts were at 29ish and the rears were at 30.

I knew something was fishy and sluggished feeling. It had to be cause i didnt measure it at cold temp.

I got it to 34 in the front and 32 in the rears and it feels firm and more responsive now.

Wow, I'm surprised that most of you guys are running lower pressure than me. With the factory 15" alloy wheels I pump 32 psi in the tires but with my 18" wheels I pump to 40 psi. I prefer the firmer ride and handling seems more responsive at this pressure. I noticed that with my 225/40/18 tires anything less than 38 psi the sidewalls show signs of wear when I take a sharp turn so that pisses me off. haha.

Hey Lee since your running nitrogen don't go back to regular air. It will deteriorate the tire from the inside.

Hey Lee since your running nitrogen don't go back to regular air. It will deteriorate the tire from the inside.

Regular air will deteriorate the inside of your tire no matter what.
Even if you start with air in your new/used tires.
There is so much moisture in air which is bad for the inside of your tires.

Nitrogen was put in my tires when I bought them new from http://www.wheelmax.com
Thats all I plan on using now. Its soooooo much better than air, and no it wont blow up.

There is a lot of benefits of using nitrogen in your tires.
The best being that your not putting water in your tires.
Also, nitrogen wont leak out due to pressure.

Look it up, its well worth the money.
You've worked at a tire shop, you prolly already know this. :D

This is nice to hear... the shop put 32psi in my 225/40/18's when i had the tires mounted and i knew that wasnt right, but i didnt want to put too much pressure in mine so i only went to 37, i will bump it to 39 tomorrow. i agree the firm ride feels much better and the tires grip better in turns. i know i will not go lower than 37 psi, if anything, higher.
