OBX LSD
So....since a number of us track our cars, or plan to do so, we know the weaknesses and the strengths of our camry/solara platforms in regards to performance.
In short, our cars can benefit greatly from an LSD. But unfortunately, it has been a number of years since our cars have been in the performance spotlight (if really ever) and LSDs are in short supply since TRD/Quaife/KAAZ doesn't make an LSD for our transmissions anymore (e153).
Cusco still has one available, but it costs almost more than our cars are worth at this point, so I personally consider it a viable, but not reasonable option.
Now, OBX has an LSD out for the e153- advertised for the mr2 sw20, which will also fit our transmissions. I'm not sure when they came out with the LSD for the mr/camry- I presume fairly recently since nobody in the community has brought it up yet, but OBX has had LSDs out for hondas and nissans since around 2004. There have been some mixed reviews in terms of fitment, but the majority are positive, especially in regards to performance, and not too much that I could find about them blowing up in a tranny or anything.
From what others have figured, they seem to be replicas of quaife designed LSDs.
OBX quality has always been a bit iffy, but word is that these are made in a factory in japan and then rebranded as OBX. Personally, I don't care where they are made if they are of decent quality. I had my doubts about OBX's quality until I got and personally installed the JP-replica headers that they made- they are of amazing quality actually. If their LSD is of the same level of quality, I wouldn't hesitate to buy one.
If I had an extra tranny lying around and my car wasn't boosted, I'd try it with no hesitation. But with a lot more power than stock, and only one tranny that I'd rather not blow up, I'm up in the air about this.
What are other people's thoughts on this?
Currently available cusco lsd on ebay = approx $1200 - 1300
OBX LSD = < $400
