I've been thinking about doing a coat of VHT Niteshade on my tail lights, but I know that the stuff isn't too easy to take off, if need be. Has anyone tried using like a black legging (clothing) to cover their tail lights?

No offense, but that sounds like a dumb idea. :D
Nite Shades is good stuff, it's cheap and easy (just like your....)
Of course you can't really remove it though, but who would want to?
Trust me, I'm a technician.

I use a thin stretchy plastic film I bought off eBay for $20 and came pre-cut for the Gen 4.5 Camry. You use soapy water to adhere it and it took me about an hour to do.

It looks good if you take the time to ensure bubbles are gone. You can tell up close that it's an adhesive but from anything further than five feet it just looks good. It also has a nice shine to it.

In my opinion I think it looks better than Nightshade. Nightshade if you're not careful it just looks like you spray painted your car. You have to make sure you apply exactly the same thickness of coating or it will be darker in spots and not consistent.

This material I used works really well, hasn't fallen off after a year (despite innumerable automatic car washes).

It's really up to what you want. I think both have pro's and cons. Check out my cardomain profile for some pics of it.

by 'black legging' do you mean panty hose?

because that stuff looks ghetto as hell.

the original thread (with pics) got locked and closed (because the host was taking too many hits from everywhere on the internet, who came to ridicule the OP).

Did any light come through it? Or did it completely block it out? See, I personally don't like that look. Maybe if you used Clearcoat over top to give it a nice sheen I might like it.

vman, I say try to find the film that I put on my car that I got from eBay. I'll try to get around to taking some pics of my taillights tomorrow and post them up here.

Otherwise go to a tint shop and pay them like $100 to do it, IMO.

I disagree. I used the VHT. It took about an hour to finish both lights, looks the way I wanted, and is nice and glossy.
On top of that, it's cheap, durable, easy to find.
VHT is great, you just have to have some skill with cans.
If you do it wrong, it'll turn out wrong. It's as simple as that.
Trust me, I'm a technician.

I wish our cars had precut sheets, maybe someone local to them should offer their car to be the guinea pig.

The uncut sheets doesn't look to hard to apply though...

Yeah I found the seller on eBay I bought my pre-cut tint film from but he's not selling it for Solara's tail lights. I sent him a message though letting him know there's some who might be interested in it.
