speed calibration?

Postby 02slera » Fri Jan 22, 2010 1:39 pm

Does anyone know how to adjust the calibration of the speedometer on the 02 solara v6? I was hoping i could get a hypertech programmer and adjust the wheel size in the ecu but apparently they do not make one for the solara. any ideas?

further research... im now looking at the Truspeed by superlift, it looks like it may just work but its really for trucks with aftermarket wheels, anyone on here a mechanic? know if the truspeed calibration made for toyota pickups and 4runners and tacomas will work with the A541E transmissions speed sensor?

I've been curious about this myself. Not necessarily this specific program but any way to recalibrate the speedo. My tire size is off slightly now and it's actually making my odometer roll over slightly faster than actual milage traveled. I went from a 205/65R15 to a 215/60R15

just get another car to drive next to you, & have them go 20, what ever your speedo says, so if it says 22, then your 2 miles an hour over, so 50 would be 52, problem solved.............. :drinking:

You don't get it. It's throwing my odometer off and I want that to remain accurate. I already can figure out how fast I'm going.

truspeed by superlift ( http://www.superlift.com/accessories/truspeed.asp )

this unit is made for toyota trucks; when installed on solara, it was inconsistent from when you first start driving to 20 minutes later, however directions were not followed on install so results may be wrong as instead of hooking up to wire at transmission, wire behind gauge cluster was used, also wires for signal and 12v supply were bundled together and i believe they are supposed to be separated.

I could get this thing perfectly accurate, let the car sit over night and the next moring it would be -10 mph off at 35mph (gauge says 35 when doin 45). But after driving the car for over 20 minutes this would slowly change and get closer and closer to accurate. biggest problem is even when splicing into the wire directly behind the guages, shift points are changed as well. it seems that the signal hits the gauge and then goes to the computer. when the speedometer reads less than actual speed it will hold gears longer and rev into redline, obviously the opposite happens when the speedometer reads more than actual speed... the shifts come too soon.

I agree it sux that when the speedometer reads higher than actual speed the odometer says your car has more miles then it really does. my car was 4-5mph over actual speed with stock wheels. Readings on car speedometers is not always accurate from the factory.

Again, old guy math?
22 at 20 would be 10% off.
So....50 would be 55. :drinking:

We're not that far apart on age.
Maybe it was because I graduated. 8)

Back on topic...that's why I go with the same size as original.
