Question about Air Intake !

Question about Air Intake !

Postby RandySolara » Tue Jun 09, 2009 8:17 pm

Hey guys, my just bought the cold air intake for his Solara 2000 SLE V6 (Automatic Transmission) , i installed and replaced the stock one, the "Check" sensor light came on after he drove for 4-5 miles, you guys know the CHECK yellow light near the RMP1000 right ?

Anyone has any idea why is that happen ? how come i installed it for my wife's car, it was good, nothin happen ? the different thing is my wife's car is 5-speeds and his is Auto Trans is it any different between 5spd and auto for the Air Intake ?

Does it harm the engine if he drive with the CHECK ENGINE sensor light on ? i asked one of the machanic he said maybe the engine takes too much air thats why the sensor CHECK turned on and it will not harm the engine its just the sensor ???

There another question i wanna ask, the aftermarket Cold-Air-Intake has only 2 holes, the Solara has 3 drain hose for the air blow, one from top of engine one is from middle and the other one is from other side, the middle one is the smallest one that the air-intake doesnt have, so i custom make a small hole to fit that smallest hose, am i doin it right ?

In the picture on here and other forum, i dont see that small hole from the intake or that small hose, where do you guys put it ? :) for my wife's car it was good, for my friend, man too much problems.

Anyone of you got any idea ? please help me out ? i think the part is defected but i custom made a small hole from the intake he cannot return it back to the shop. Thanks for reading guys.

well that happened to me when i first installed mine so i thought id throw it out there but that is a good point, so its got to be a vacuum leak ,changing the intake wont change the amount of air taken into your engine it only makes it easyier to take in

well when i first intalled mine the maf was a little loose and the motor kept shaking and then it started to idle rough and then just died. I tightened the 2 10mm bolts down pretty tight and then started her up and it was going fine. The only thing that might happen for like the first half an hour is rough idling becuase the motor is getting used to the new air flow.

We bought this air-intake from a nearby shop, it has no name but the quality look ok, for my wife it was fine but for my friend the CHECK sensor came on, i think no-name air-intake look like this one above, it has only 2 holes for the hose, but Solara 99-2001 has 3 hoses, 2 bigs one and 1 small one,

So i had to custom make a small hole for the small hose with a little plastic and connect it in, look good and perpect but after 4 miles the CHECK sensor light turned on, he drove his car back to me and i put back the stock one and the sensor CHECK still there, i took out the battery plugs and reset the system then the sensor disappeared, this guy my friend worried so he drivin with stock air intake now untill i find out a solution, once again Thanks so much for reading and helping.

Does anyone of you install an Air Intake for solara V6 Automatic trans before ? what do you do with the little small hose ? leave it like that or screw a custom hole from the Intake like me ?

At first when i installed it for my wife, i put the sensor (i dont know wat that thing call) in a wrong way, the car automatically turn off engine after 10 seconds.

There should be three hose connections as seen here.
