Mix & Match Springs

After seeing nearly two dozen modified Solaras all in one area (it's been a long time for an SC3 fogey like me!), I've come to realize that I really do detest the raked stance the S-Techs give my car. From those of you who were on Eibachs at the SoCal meet on Saturday, you showed me that raked=boo-boo status. Being that I like the front drop on the S-Techs more than the Pro-Kits, I'm leaving those on. As for the rear, I highly doubt anyone will have just rears for sale, but I'm contemplating doing that: S-Tech fronts, Pro-Kit rears. Anybody else familiar with running "staggered" springs, please step in and drop some knowledge.

does the rear drop too much in the rear with the s-techs?

as for mixing and matching springs, I did that with dropzones in the front and eibachs in the back for a pretty decent drop after my tranny swap.

before that, I was running 4cyl springs (also eibach) in the front to drop the front a bit more, and it was pretty much perfect until I lost the weight from the tranny swap.

the ride and performance was pretty much the same as before.

^thanks for your input. I might get 4cyl springs for the front (don't know why I didn't just use 4cyl springs from the beginning).

King, actually, it's quite the opposite of most spring drops. Tein compensated for the fact that most spring sets have the drop set at the same amount front and back, which often leaves you looking like the rear is lowered more than the front (due to the bigger fender space up front in the first place). Tein's S-Tech springs are "staggered", which, on my car and well-settled, drops about -1.9" up front, -1.5" out back, giving me a nice 1.5 finger gap front, but leaves the rear hiked up higher, with an at least 2 finger gap. Grrrr....I really don't feel like taking my rear suspension apart again, but if the Eibachs (Tracy/chunkz pointed out at the meet that they tend to sag just a bit, & that's good to me!) will give me more of an even stance, I'l do it.

ah...then the eibach rears would probably be what you're looking for since there is basically only a small gap in the rear after the eibachs, but a larger gap up front.

before going to coilovers, I was always happy with the rear, but never with the front only.

^Ho-Sway (haha!), I'd say do the same setup that I'm doing (Tein front, Eibach rear), but that's overkill for you. You can't go wrong with either set, I just like the front drop on the S-Techs more.

Just to remind people, TRD = Eibachs! So why get Eibach's when you can get some authentic TRD springs!

True, Eibach made the TRD springs. However, there is a significant difference in drops between the TRD-spec springs and the Sportlines, that ASG14 and a few others can attest to.

Didn't know that... so TRD springs are a stiffer AND lowered spring than the regular Eibach Sportlines?

TRDs are rated at -1.2"F/-1.4"R, Sportlines are -1.6" all the way around. On top of that, the wind on the springs is different as well. Hopefully Adam/ASG14 can chime in on this as well.
