Hood Bulge from strut bar..(avalon)

Hood Bulge from strut bar..(avalon)

Postby GreeKAvaLoN » Sat Mar 28, 2009 5:15 pm

So, I decided to be a pioneer for any Gen1 avalon owners out there and try the Solara Strut bar, well, it fit PERFECTLY onto the bolts and whatnot. (the open are on the ends go on the bottom right?) Well, it wasn't perfect, I had to move a little relay box over, but luckily with my SRI, I had plenty of room. Now on the passenger side the hood bulges up. The cushion thing is meeting up with it. What do you guys say I should do? If I cut where the strut bar meets will I get more rattling or anything? Will it collapse? Any thoughts? I'll get some pics tomorrow. Its kinda about to snow here.

Summed up:
Strut bar is hitting hood in a Gen1 (95-97) Avalon. I need/want to fix this.
are avalons supposed to be this fast?

where the strut bar hits the hood, is that a support frame or is it the actual hood?

Well if the strut bar kisses the hood, when the car drives and flexes, the bar woudl flex and bulge up the hood.

Not a good thing that its that close to the hood.

blahh.. It's not hitting a support or anything. its just the top cushion/blanket thing. I was hoping if I took some of the top part out where it meets it'll be better. The Avalon's is pretty thick.. its only passenger side too though.

if it is just the cushion that you need to cut and the bar wont hit the actual hood then your safe but if it touches the hood at all its a no go

chances are it's hitting the frame of the hood which is under the foam hood liner. pull the hood liner down and you'll probably be able to see where its hitting. you can trim the hood frame to give the strut bar somewhere to go.

Non OEM products (meaning something that wasn't meant for your car) will not fit flush. Same with gen4 camry's. When you place the solara strut bar, the first time you have to press down evenly on the hood. This will leave an indendation on the fire-hood-insulation thingy. Once the crease has been made permanent *you don't have to cut it like people before me said* you can then see if it really touches the hood by checking it every few weeks, until you are satisfied its not.
