injen intake problem

injen intake problem

Postby solara90 » Sat Feb 07, 2009 2:49 pm

so i got that injen intake, and i out it on and my car ran fine, a little later my check engine light came on (oh great).

then i came back home double checked all the connections they were fine, and disconnected the battery cable to see if it would come back on after that.

well i started my car then, no check engine light (yes!) and then it starts sputtering and sounding like it was going to die.. so i put back on my stock intake and drove around and now its fine?

so what could this be im confused and mad!

dude don't trip about the check engine light. it happens to pretty much everyone. it's the price you gotta pay for the mod. i think only the cp-e for sure makes the cel not come on... everything else prolly does. i've heard of some ppl with injen intakes not having the light come on, but from what i hear, a majority of the time it does. if the car wasn't giving you any problems before, just let it run!

im not worried about the light.. but it made my car sputter and almost die, so there has to be a vacuum leak somewhere?

If a simple intake system is setting off CELs, it's either not completely installed correctly, or its crappily made. Injen's QC is at industry standards (as I'm sure CP-E's is), so this shouldn't be happening. Double check all your vacuum connections to make sure they're secure.

No lol. CEL is not the price you pay, if you install the part right you won't get a CEL. Check your maf the wires may be in bad shape.

well, i put the stock back on before i went to work tonight, and when i started up after work my rpms jumped to about 2500.

and then when i would let off the gas rpm would drop, and shoot back up and then drop again

but once i got to the light it would idle about 1100 rpm which usually idles around 800-700?

when i got my injen
i first unplugged the battery
installed it
reconnected the battery
then turn on the engine and let it idle for a good 10 minutes
only time i get check engine light is if im running hard for a long time
and its just says im running lean and doesn't happen often maybe like less than once a year

MAke sure u reset the ECu by:

unplugging the battery and holding the brake pedal for 10 sec.

This way the car have to relearn the normal specs.

I never got CEL with injen intake with or without CAI and I Drive my car VERY VERY hard.
Installation procedure was simlar, unplug batt, install intake, plug in batt
Also i experiences something similar to your problem when my MAF was super dirty, I had it cleaned off. I also experienced similar problems when two vacuum hoses were switched under my hood after a hasty removal and reinstall of the intake, except when i had vacuum switch around it only acted wierd at idle and not when i was driving.

Hope that helps a bit.

Why not just go to your local auto zone and read the computer. They will do it free and then you know exactly why its on. Instead of guessing as to what caused it to come on.
