VVME HID Installation? *UPDATED*

VVME HID Installation? *UPDATED*

Postby LatinDragonXJC » Sat Nov 08, 2008 4:14 pm

Or for you guys that have installed any HIDs in your Gen1. I just attempted to install the HIDs but hit a wall of confusion. So I have a few questions.

Did you remove the headlight assembly for the installation?

Not sure if my kit came complete. But did anyone have to modify the rubber weather grommet, in order to get the bulb to fit? Or was one included?

Also did you drill any holes for the wires?

I'm kinda lost because the pictures in the installation manual aren't that clear neither is the ENGRISH. Thanks.

You don't have to remove the headlight light assembly unless you want to hide the ballasts. Rubber weather grommet you just easily pull it take it off and switch the bulb should fit to perfection. As for drilling holes...where exactly??

Thanks, I can barely tell from the picture in the manual, but it says to drill holes in the grommet for the wires, in Engrish which is confusing. I'ma take another crack at it tomorrow. Didn't seem plug and play.

Oh I see, no you don't have to drill any holes you can use the given hole from the rubber grommet. Just slide the wires in and then connect the bulb to the ballast.

The previous owner of my car said that when he installed the vvme kit on an 03 solara he had to swap the rubber grommet from the halogen bulb to the hid bulb...the hid bulb came with thicker/fatter grommet...other than that the installation is a simple plug n play!

Gen 1 and 1.5 have different headlights, though, so don't worry about that.

Take a picture of the kit? Maybe someone can figure it out with pictures handy.

I understand all the connections, the only thing that I don't understand is how the bulb is going to fit through the small rubber Grommet hole. There's an lock and unlock mechanism on the bulb itself. Am I supposed to unlock and remove that silver shell protecting the bulbs?

I have the exact same kit on my gen 1.
I put a slit in the oem rubber grommet..that was the only way I could the bulbs to go through. I have my bulbs set to "lock". I took the headlights out to completely hide the ballasts.

ya... i think you have to put a split into the rubber... i remember not being able to make all the wieres go through it. I just closed the rubber on some of the wires, but i think a split like NDDIS said would be good

Ooooh OK, cut a slit, leave it locked (no need to seperate) and insert?

Well I finally got them installed. Thanks for the tips guys, the slit in the grommet made alot of sense.

Now my only issue is the aim. It's horrible, took a quick pic with my phone.

Do I just adjust the bulb?

Was I supposed to remove the OEM light "shield" inside the headlight?

Both openings on the bulbs are facing up.

Here's the pic:
