ATTN: 1MZ / 3MZ Hybrids!
From prior research, reading and searching, I've determined that:
- 1MZFE non-vvti heads bolt to 3MZFE short blocks.
- 3MZFE has VVTI oil ports that need to be blocked.
- The 3MZ has no EGR, as it is a VVTi engine.
- California smog requires that we have EGR ports.
- I like EGR anyway, since it reduces NOx emissions.
So my big issue is... do the VVTI 1MZ and 3MZ blocks still have the EGR junction block on the back side of the block? Obviously it wouldn't be drilled or tapped, but is it still there? I'm hoping it is, since the 3MZ is just a punched-out 1MZ..
And if that turns out to not be feasible, has anyone actually bored out a 1MZ block and installed 3MZ pistons?
Thanks in adavnce, guys!
