SLE Climate Control Backlights?

SLE Climate Control Backlights?

Postby Mr_Chunkz » Tue Mar 04, 2008 11:27 pm

Im not sure if this has been posted
And to be honest I didnt bother searching cause I remember I did before a while ago and nothing turned up
I know HVAC in Solara SE uses.. 194 bulb ( i think ) from a tutorial I read a while back but does anyone know for sure what SLE climate control uses? I've been meaning to change out those bulbs in my car to match my blue/white LED thing I had going.

If it's the "manual" HVAC, it use 2 bulbs "74". If it's the auto HVAC, I don't know but I guess it's just like the radio. :)

I dont believe 74 bulb requires soldering...

Can anyone shed some light on this?

i did
it pulled up the same tutorial i used to replace all my interior bulbs
however
that one has instructions how to replace HVAC, not Climate Control bulbs. Us SLE Guys have that damn green climate control screen.

There's 6-7 #74 light bulbs, all of which look like:

http://autolumination.com/74.htm
Scroll halfway down and look for something labeled as a "Type B" (WARNING: I don't remember what diameter type you need exactly, just a reference point).

hey Tracy, pull out the climate control, let me know if it's just a pull and plug in bulb, or if it's actualy one needed to solder or w/e in. if it's just a simple bulb replacement, then switchin the color shouldn't be hard at all.

^^Read my post.

It's a #74 bulb attached to a base that you rotate 90 degrees to pull out and put back in. No soldering required. I've replaced a burnt out bulb in my climate before.

sweet, are the bulbs stock green? or do they have caps over it? cuz if it's just a bulb I can make red .. then hell I'll look to do that next week!
what you mean diameter size??
all #74 bulbs should fit, no?
anyways I ordered the 10mm diameter one just to be the safe.

If you guys want to do it cheap just pull the green condoms off the bulbs and color them with a sharpie. I did this and had no color fade. Its been like this for 1.5-2 years now.

Oh my bad I miss read Chunkz's post. Either way for all you manual hvac guys its easy. By the way isn't the digital hvac unit for the SLE have leds??? If so you will have to do what I did for the radio.

Before I was using a blue transparent plastic, remove the green condoms for the manual HVAC. It was looking good, but it's not like LEDs.

For the auto HVAC, I would use 74 LED or color bulbs, not a color plastic or shapie.

But it's just my idea, all depend what kind of theme you want to do,
I think you need to think about a theme or do a plan of what you want before to start messing there.
Some people want to match color with the aftermarket radio they bought, etc, some wants to match the gauges, some want all blue,red,orange...

Don't forget to change the clock color, leaving it "green" is very ugly.
The only way I know to change the clock is to put a color over it,

blue plastic=blue clock
red plastic =orange clock.
yellow plastic = ??

I could try to find a "indigo" display to solder the clock and make the clock more beautiful, but it would take lot of time searching for pieces,etc..don't worth for now spending my time on this, impact is so little.
