17x7 45 offset wheel, need spacers???

Postby tboidsc » Fri Feb 29, 2008 11:06 am

Thinking of getting Enkei GTC01's for my 2000 Solara. I am sticking with the 17x7, but they only seem to come in +45 offset. If I am not mistaken, this means that the tire will be closer in towards the strut and may rub.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Did they have to purchase 5mm spacers. H&R tells me that I would need to change the lug studs as well, but do I really have to if all I am doing with the spacer is making the offset of the wheel +40, which are the Revo's on my car that I am replacing.

Wouldn't the 5mm spacers just bring the new wheels back to where the Revo's sit today, and no need for lug studs?

Here is a pick of the wheel in Hyper Black

I am replacing my Bridgestone S-03 Pole Position's with RE960AS Pole Position's.

I'm pretty sure it'll fit just fine.

With out the 5mm spacers?

Or the lug studs will be long enough with the 5mm spacers.

Sorry I know I asked alot of questions in my post.

It'll fit fine I think although the 5mm's may make is be a more 'flush' so to speak. nice wheels man. kind of remind me of the Enkei RSV's
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

no you don't need them but they'd look hellah sunken in.

I have the same size with the same offset and i'm gonna put on some 10mm spacers when my extended wheel studs come in so it'll push the wheel out better.

Yeah, they do look like the RSV's. Thanx.

OK, so if I get the 5mm spacers, it would push them back out to where my +40 Revo's are. I think that would be best, since I fear if I push them out too much, due to the lowering, I will rub the fender in the rear. I already had to roll up the fenders a little bit in the back with these. I have 225/45/17 tires.

I just went with H&R spacers on the rear of my car- 5mm spacers with longer studs, theyre nice! then you dont have to worry about the length of your studs being too short either.

It will be tight in the rear, but it will fit unless you go with a really wide tire. It would definitely be nice to push them out a bit with a 5mm or 10mm spacer.

My enkei's are 19x7 with a 45 offset and they dont rub at all. I'd prefer the rears out a little more, possibly 5mm or 10mm, but as of now no spacers.

Btw, very nice choice of rims.

Thanx for the info guys. Do you really think I need to extend the lug studs. If a +40 offset fits today, aren't I just adding more "meat" so to speak to the +45's to make them +40? Shouldn't it fit regardless? I can see if I added 10mm, then I may be looking at longer studs, right>?

on the whole, 5mm spacers are usually fine without longer studs (I've ran 5mm spacers in my rear for my summers for years now)

but for 10mm spacers, longer studs are a definite

If you verify H&R spacers...you'll note that the 5mm is way less cheaper than 10mm+ spacers...why ?? Because they include in a kit the longer stud and all you need to make it right.

As metioned in H&R website.

http://www.hrsprings.com/products/trak/

Note : only the DR series doesn't include longer studs.

My 5mm H&R's came with the longer studs, but I chose not to run them. I have 7 complete turns of the lugnut like their directions say is fine. I am running IS300's 17x7 with a +50 offset the tires are 215-50-17 which turns out to be back to stock as the factory rim/tire combo. I don't like to think am I going 5mph (or so) over/under.
Got Boost?? :sweet:

^^^

Yeah you are right. 5mm include the studs... so I wonder why 10mm+ spacers are that expensive compare to 5mm
