Is it ok to run tires this wide. This is what my understanding is now:

-50mm offset wont clear the strut, obviously will clear the fender
-45mm offset and 225 or even 235 width tires usually clear both strut and fender
-35mm offset and 225 width tires requires rolling the fender, the strut would obviously be cleared.

so what I am thinking is that is the tire is 245 width, will it be ok at a 40 offset and with the fender rolled?

with 18x8, 40offset is the best.... 225/40's should work fine. buy a tire with a curved sidewall and you shouldnt have to roll your fenders.... am i understanding the question? lol.
my tsw's were 18x8 40 offset with 225/40 tires and i had no rub issues...

I can't speak for the Gen 1s but I know that 245s with a 30 offset on my Gen 2 rub like hell - until I cut my fenders. Still got a little more to trim this weekend.

So rolling might work with the 40 offset. I think the 245s look/ride excellent if you can squeeze them in there! :D

Dude, I have 245's on the back of my Supra. It will look retarded on a Front drive car with 18's.

I'm not sure if your post was a yes or no question... but,

No.

rim manufactures say 235 is the widest. But rolled and pulled fenders with 245 should be ok. A little negative camber to tuck in the top. FLUSH. VIP status.
