Altering wood grain

Altering wood grain

I think I wanna alter my wood grain. I have black interior so i'm thinking some variation of grey silver.

Does paint or vinyl work better? Any words of wisdom from you guys that have done it? Pictures are appreciated!

I would imagine if you can do the vinyl work yourself it would look better but it might be hard to get it shaped right. If you paint it, if you take your time you can do it to the point where it'll look great and last a while. I painted the interior pieces of my old car. I wet sanded the pieces I wanted to paint. Then I sprayed two thing coats of primer on each piece until dry. 3 coats of whatever paint you choose followed by 2-3 coats of clear. It lasted the entire time I had my car, 4 years or so, and looked great until the day I got rid of it. Patience and taking your time would be the key on this particular job but its well worth the effort.

i've seen pics of one car that had an aluminum finish in place of the woodgrain on the doors and dash, it looked pretty cool, i've never done that kind of thing but i would imagine it would be best to do a little light sanding with a very fine sandpaper on the pieces before tryin to paint them to help the paint stick, but i really dont know.
