DUEL CHARGING THE SOLARA

type r monster

Postby guest » Mon Apr 21, 2003 2:01 pm

yes its possible...because my cousin's friend is building up his b18c5 (yup that's Honda) to be "twincharged" too. He is planning to S/C his engine from 0 to 5800 rpm and have it shut off and have the turbo spool up along with when the vtec kicks in at 6400 rpm. So in effect, he has the SC power in the early stages of the rev range, and the turbo + VTEC in the latter parts. He said that he has titanium valve springs, etc. so his revs can hit up to the 11k range (hopefully). Its a monster project I hear. Although I doubt its success, I dont doubt its conception because he says that he is very close.

Okay, here's a question:
If you chose to twin charge an engine, would you require some sort of back flow preventer between the 2 boosting mechanisms?
If the 2 systems aren't perfectly balanced ie, identical psi, could you not risk damage to some of the components?

i guess this post died a long time ago because no one really knows what they're talking about haha.

no offense, but it's basically all talk. i doubt anyone on this forum has the money or the time to actually go through with such a project. oh well, it was fun reading!

hmMM.. i think people DO have the money.. its just the frugality of splurging that mcuh money into a car like ours is where the question lies.

Anything is possible with money, but twincharging is more for bragging rights than anything.

Turbo doesn't cancel out VTEC.
