Questions regarding struts/springs

Questions regarding struts/springs

Postby EkiMucH » Sun Mar 06, 2011 1:58 am

I am planning to drop my car in a month or so and wanted to do it right the first time, so I don't have to run into any other problems later. I was thinking about getting Megan's coilovers and talked to Mr_Krispy1183 about those already, but now I want to know what I would need if I went the other route with just replacing springs/struts.

If I went with that option, it would either be Tokico/Tein or KYB/Tein. Also from what I been reading on here and other sites is to replace the strut mounts as well. Will I need to replace anything else whenever it is I get this done? I already have an Ultra Racing RSB ordered and will plan to get that installed at the same time as the struts/springs or coilovers, whichever route I go with. Also for strut mounts, is there any particular brand to look for or just replace them with any of the ones available? The wheels I have on my car is 17" with 215/45/17 tires

Thanks any help I get is appreciated!

i installed eibach springs and tokico struts on mine.
yes you should replace all 4 strut mounts.
also buy new strut boots (the rubber sleeve that keeps dirt out).
and there is a piece of rubber that sits under the spring called a "coil spring insulator" that would also be wise to have on hand when you are mounting the new springs on the new struts.
when i bought my strut boots they came with new stops also, which after reading a lot, i cut to a smaller size before installing (because the car was to be lowered due to the new springs).

My strut mounts were good so I didn't change them when I installed my KYB/Tein. Everything's good so far even with our crappy pothole streets.

Thanks mig0s! I will take that into consideration as well. With 112k miles on my car right now, I might just change it all though. Just waiting for the cash to come in and choose between those three options I placed for myself lol

strut/ spring combo are good but the thing with coils is you can always slam the car and then raise it when your bored and the feeling of c/o's are nowhere near compared to struts/springs. But yeah just change strut mounts and you should be set.

Do you know the offset on your wheels? maybe you wont rub. If you do its fender rolling time.

Not too sure about the offset, the wheels on there were placed by the first owner of the car and bought it from a dealer. I will try to find out in the morning.

Thanks for the info btw!
