4 or 5.5 psi pulley on supercharger?

4 or 5.5 psi pulley on supercharger?

First, let me apologize in advance. I know a while ago I did this research and found some threads but I just did a search on supercharger, psi, pulley and a few others and didn't really find what I was looking for.

So I have a supercharger ready to install and it is already equipped with the 5.5 psi pulley. I'd kind of like to keep it on there instead of the 4psi pulley, which I also have. The question is, is it ok to use the 5.5 psi pulley on an otherwise stock 1mzfe?

I know a while ago I had planned on using the 4psi pulley, but I think it was because I was going to put it on my wife's car and I wanted it to be very mild and trouble free. Knowing that the 4psi pulley wouldn't even have voided the warranty back in the day, I chose that one. But now I've decided to use it on my own car and I'm willing to replace the knock sensors if they go, but I couldn't remember if a change in fueling was required or not, which I'd rather not do.

So: 4 psi or 5.5 psi?

If you are currently running the TRD supercharger I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences, good and bad. For instance, is it pretty much guaranteed that the knock sensors will go with the 5.5 psi pulley? Also, if you could maybe comment about how your economy was effected, that would be great. Plus anything else that comes to mind on this topic.

Thanks and no flames please.

From what I have read and heard you will need some fuel upgrades if you wanna run 5psi safely on the 1mz. I think you need at least a 255 fuel pump, jim's fuel mod and SAFC for a safe tune. I would try and contact gabe for some input

When you decide to go higher than 5psi you must get a 190 walbro fuel pump, Jims fuel mod, relocated knock sensors because they will go out. Mine went out at 4.5psi.
and it is highly recommended to run 94+ octane. Which it will be an expensive car to drive depending on the way you drive the car.
You will also need an SAFC to be properly tuned, a 3in. exhaust is recommended as well.

If you dont want to go with the hassle in spending a lot of money on gas and a few more mods i would recommend sticking with 4psi, even 4.5psi is fine just replace the knock sensors to be on the safe side.

Just to add, @ 5.5 psi, you may want to take a look at putting in the Supra 325CC injectors. U can run the stock injectors on the 5.5 psi pulley, however dont expect much, safe power in the higher RPM range.

Think I'll just stick with the 4psi. Don't want the hassle, plus I'm already putting a V6 into a Corolla. That ought to be enough, don't you think?

i had a question about supercharging but didnt want to start a new thread for it...

whats the max boost you can run on premium pump gas (92-93 octane) alone with no additives and be safe?

A V8 Corolla? Yeah, but was it front wheel drive?

I'm guessing it was an AE86.
