99 Solara Headlight HID and Fog light Upgrade

Rookie Solara wrote:I saw you guys mentioned 6000k fog...I am sure you guys are talking about HID, my question is...where do you mount the ballast for those 9006? I know I have plenty of rooms to mount the H4 HID ballast around the engine bay but does the bottom of the bumper has some dedicated place to mount the 9006 HID?

I took off my headlights and there's a nice spot to put 2 ballasts on both sides. One for the headlights and other for foglight.

in response to the yellow cap questions:

the yellow caps are installed like dawgz said, you gotta remove the fog light, bake the light and then open it up. once open, it is jbwelded to the spot where the bulb pokes through.

i thought about doing this mod for a while, but then decided that
a) if i wanted the yellow fog look all the time, then the yellow tint film was the choice to make
b) if you want the foglight to only light up yellow, but stay stock looking, then you can always install the nokya yellow lights
c) for the amount of work (and my aprehension for opening up/cooking the fog light) it's not worth the effort or the risk of messing up my foglight to try and install the caps, when the film or the bulbs are capable of doing it.

or you could do a HID upgrade to 3000K in the fogs

BTW, what does everyone in this thread think about doing the two different wattages in the fogs/headlights?

i think it's like 85w for the regular headlights and 55w or 65w for the fogs, right? i ask because if i did a full HID conversion, i would want to have the fogs still slightly less bright than the headlights.

opinions, experiences, comments, concerns?

Umm.. i thought it was 35W for both headlights and fogs... thats what i have now. I have read someonewhere on this forum that higher wattage might melt something in the headlights, that why i took the 35w... i wish i could use a higher wattage

Here is the full DIY yellow capsule conversion....it is a very detail page about the installation. If it is year 1999 right now, I am all for it...I am getting older and spending TIMES like that to make yellow light is just no longer my interest. But here is the link for you guys that want to install the yellow capsule.

http://mysite.verizon.net/dinhdu/index.htm

Thanks for all the info.....I will go for 8000 (I like the BMW/Audi blue/white look...) and probably have my tint shop to do the yellow fog tinting film...easy fix for them and I know they will do a great job on the fog.

1 other question....last night, I saw a EVO9 with YELLOW HEADLIGHT. I know...some other country (ie. Hong Kong) Yellow headlight is 100% LEGAL....but I cannot seems to find out here in USA, even thru IDOT (Illinois) website and to verify what COLOR of headlight are considered LEGAL. I don't think I will do a yellow headlight film (just bring the COPS attension more....pretty stupid), but just want to know.

Thanks all guys...

^^ right on, i was unsure about the actual wattages offered, and used in our application.

but basically my question is: does anyone have 35w fogs, and 50w headlights? if so, is there a noticable difference in the intensity of the headlights vs foglights? or if you did both, did you just keep them both the same wattage with diff temps?

sorry to threadjack, but i always kinda wondered about this.

50 watt headlights is not recommended unless youve got projector retro.
my 50 watt fogs glare like crazy and putting that sort of light into a reflector type headlight would not only annoy the oncoming traffic, im sure it would be dangerous as well as illegal
