Guys, don't be mad... Another HID question.

Sorry, but I searched and nothing seemed to fully answer my question...

I have a Gen. 1 and am thinking of upgrading to HID. I have a very low budget, but obviously want my HIDs to last me. I found the 60-70$ hids on eBay, and the VVME.com HIDs, and am interested in buying either, but one thing, i dont understand, am I supposed to get the Bi-Xenon headlights, or the regular one beam?

I always thought that the Solara had a turning mechanism on the high beam, where it aimed the beam higher, so wouldn't it not matter if the bulb is bi-xenon? I dont understand... I want my high beams HID tho.

you would probably need the bi-xenon headlights... Im not exactly sure. I have a gen1.5 (dual bulb per headlight)

Right, I know that for the 1.5 people need a separate bulb for the high beam in order to be HID, but the gen 1 comes with only 1 bulb which does both, hi and lo.

No, the gen 1.5 have two sperate bulbs one high one low , the gen 1 has one dual filiment bulb,you need bi xenon bulb if you want to run hi and low beam

^^ what if I just get a regular one beam? the lo will be hid and the hi will just be halogen??? even though the bulb thats running is an HID?

that depends on the kit you get .


some Bixenon kit have one hid bulb that does both functions H/L

and other kits have an hid bulb for L and a mini halogen for your highs...

yea... haha my budget is kinda low, so i've been doing lots of research... i just hope they dont go out on me after a couple months... perhaps ill just get the $40 ones, thats less than a tank of gas...

If you get the single beam kit you won't have any high beams, I suggest the bi-xenon kit.

werd. mines is like that. it comes in handy though whenever i want to turn off my HID's when the engine is on. just put the highbeam on, and POOF no blinding light.

wow... sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but to be clear here
Bi-xnon on the 99 solaras will give you xenon on the low beam and xenon on the high beam
the normal xenon ones will give you xenon on the low beam and normal filament light on the high beam... you still get high beam but its just not xenom

^Well, neither of them are good (especially the ones that have a halogen bulb and a xenon bulb... that's just asking for any negative consequences), but I have the kind that flicks the light up when you need high-beams (usually only useful for overhead signs or flashing them at night when someone cuts you off or something).

Do it once and do it right is always the rule i stand by. Never get the ebay kits and the vvme kits, their ballast draws more power than what is rated. I had a vvme kit and it blew my 10 amp fog light fuse. Turns out it was drawing more power than usual since it didn't blow out a 15 amp fuse. These kits also tend to flicker. Xenon + Halogen does not equal bi-xenons, more like Xenogens

I believe the failure rate to date on their kit is something like 0.05% and they've been around for a few years. Unlike other cheaper imitations, their bi-xenon bulbs are actually motorized with the bulb moving in and out. Well respected on many forums. I've never had any problem claiming warranty and their service is always great. See what you like, but don't order from their site. They sell their kits on ebay for cheaper, about $170.
