Which HIDs are less likely to get me pulled over?

Yellow Foglights / HID

I think 8000 and up would draw unwanted attention from law enforcement, compared to 6000k which I would think looks like the factory HID in some higher end luxury vehicles (including our Solaras' Lexus cousins).

I'm still looking for input on the whole "law enforcement attention" and "ability to pass inspection" with a 4300k vs 6000k.

I'm pretty much set on a 3-way conversion (have to disable DRLs obviously), because somehow I feel like HID lows and halogen highs would feel a little pointless. The only thing is, my car is still under a certified vehicle warranty (until 12/2009 or 100K, I'm at 82K now)... should I stick with halogen for now until the Solara's out of warranty?

<=== Indecisive...

They actually do have yellow kits, contact them. They just dont list them.

There's the link to the yellow fogs. Honestly, they have a little bit of an orange tone to it. If thats what you like cool but I figured I'd put it out there since I already have them and thought they would be more yellow looking.

Well, if VVME has the 3000k kits, then I might just do a full conversion. I figure it'll be 120+shipping for the 3000k fogs and the low/high kits.

My only reservation now is whether the car will pass inspection or not. I'm kind of paranoid, because even though it's been a couple years since I got a ticket, my driving record from my younger years isn't exactly the cleanest.....

So I'm trying to weigh my options... I think that the 6000k kit looks cooler than the 4300k, enough to be worth the 200 lumen loss... but I want to avoid any trouble as well.

It will most likely not pass inspection if u go with the hid bulbs active.

What i do is take out the bulbs, and unplug the ballast, and put in the regular halogen bulbs. The ballasts can stay where they are. It literally takes 20 mins total of taking it apart and putting it back on. And u do this maybe every year or watever the inspection durration is for u. :D

I have 6000k and havent had an issue with law enforcement, even with the issue of running an HID kit in non-projector headlights, which is usually glare city and a sure way to get a ticket.

Mine are not actually this blue, there was just some strange lighting that day. Fogs are luminics JDM yellows behind two layers of smaked tint film:

Wow... again, sweet. Do the Luminics get drowned out by the HIDs at night? And has your car passed an inspection since the install?

Also, would disabling the DRLs void the warranty?

No they dont get drowned out, looks pretty decent IMO. We dont have any car inspections at all in michigan since we are too poor, so I cant help ya there  Disabling the DRLs is just unplugging one plug, so it wouldnt void anything.

Even though it sounds best to have all 3 sets in HID, keep in mind that high beams are not used that often. If you tend to switch them on and off a lot (like to avoid excessive lighting to oncoming traffic on dark roads) they will die a lot sooner.

Maybe somebody in here with that setup could comment?

I just heard back from VVME and it seems that ordering multiple kits will only knock $10 off the shipping for each kit.

I think I'll start with the low beams. I like the fact that I can throw a pair of halogens back in when it's inspection time. This also means I don't have to disable my DRLs yet.

So the only thing left is color temperature. CoB has the 6000k and hasn't had any trouble, but that's a Gen 1. Speedy has a 1.5 but has projectors. Any 1.5 owners want to chime in with some info about HIDs with stock lenses?

I would think it could go either way - either the extra light output of the 4300k will mean more glare and greater chance of getting pulled over, or the 6000k will mean more NOTICEABLE light, even if it's less glare, and again, more chance of getting pulled over.

I personally like the look of the 6000k but I don't want the cops to see my lights, think "ricer", and turn on the siren.

** EDIT ** Decided to have some fun and make it a poll!

I have 35 w 8000k in my gen 2. I love the color because far away it reminds me of the Lexus hid color, but tbh i am disappointed in the actual light output. I put 6000k halogen in my fogs and it has help viability a lot. If i could redo my hids i would most def go with 6000k. If you are going with yellow fogs i and hid for your high/low beams i would recommend you to get the hid yellow fogs b/c the noyka or whatever bulbs you buy will get over powered for sure. I used to have the 35 w halogen noyka yellow bulbs as my fogs and you couldn't even notice them due to my hids.

Heres a link to my pics http://solaraguy.com/viewtopic.php?t=37776&highlight=

In the pics the hids look purple but irl they are more blue.

So far i haven't had any problems with the police, i think its because i have projectors

good luck

Well since both sides are getting votes, I guess I'll just have to order the kit in one color and a set of bulbs in the other. Since you can't exactly walk into any local store and buy a pair of D2S headlights that have been rebased for a 9006 housing, it will probably be good to have a spare set on hand anyway.

Question, will HID bulbs not cause extra glare on our Gen2 headlights because of the projectors then?
