Electrical Cutouts?

Electrical Cutouts?

Postby Fastlane051 » Sun Dec 02, 2007 2:04 pm

So I havent been on the site in a while, mostly because of some of the people on here. Altho I did have a wreck because of my terrible suspension...It took around 5500 to fix it but I got it fixed..looks fine even tho every panel on the car was destroyed.

BUT i was looking at getting some electrical exhaust cutouts.
Does anyone on here have them?
My friend has them on his truck and they sound ridiculously awesome.
I was thinking of putting it before my catalitic converter

Thoughts?

Ive heard of the O2 sensors messing up if you cut off the cat...well in my case when the cutouts switch to no cat would the O2 sensor mess up?

And yes Ive listened to 4 cylinders on youtube...scion Tc...then a supra of coarse had one both of which are toyotas.

Listen to a solara with your specific engine with open exhaust before you decide to spend the money on it. I really only see a gain if you're boosted. Not worth imo for an NA vehicle.

What motor do you have and what are your mods? Electrical cutout would be pretty pointless on a stock motor or even a lightly modded motor. If you have a V6, it would probably sound pretty damn nice but I couldn't gaurentee you that the I4 would sound good at all.

one of my boys, Stocksolara, had an electrical cutout on his supercharged solara. I dont think it did much but it sounded sick as hell. I wouldn't get one though because if your car is slammed it's gonna break because its gonna be scraping the ground and on speed bumps nonstop

Actually it sounds like crap in the 3k rpm range. Way too loud and it will annoy you eventually. I had to drive with an open exhaust for two days and it got to me. Just my 2 cents

I would think this would actually hurt low end performance. These cars can’t afford to give away low end torque; they’re not V8’s. On a side note a buddy of mine has a TA with a big nasty cam and cutouts on the exhaust. It sounds like a stock car when he gets on it :). You would need an O2 simulator for any post cat sensors.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

Well thats why I was gonna get an electrical cutout so I can open it and close it when I want.
Id only have it open if I was at the higher RPM's

I would not recomend it even if its at high rpm..... Ever wonder why those mustang V6 ricer kids somehow become even slower? Solara needs more tq, even at high rpm they need that tq to break the wind wall thats in front of it because solara are not lamborgini, they are tall, high, and flat up front..... Not the best method of high speed air cutting.

If your car was pushing some decent power 300+hp then I would say that it's worth it...that, and it should sound pretty amazing too...

I've heard and sti with one, and it was friggin nuts...and it wasn't even a crazy sti with 800+whp

as for the post-cat o2 sensor CEL, it isn't something to worry about if you aren't keeping the cut-out open all the time since the CEL won't come on immediately (or even any time soon usually)- it is a multiple trip code
