Interest Check National Toyota Meet at TMMK (Solara Factory)
Wow! Looking below, all this text this is a little intimidating.
Rather than just scanning it, take a few minutes to consider the content.
What I'm trying to do here is gauge interest in a National Toyota car show. I have attended these for Z-Car conventiions and found them to be a blast.
History
For the past year, I've been talking with certain high level persons within Toyota about the possibility of holding a meet on the grounds of Toyota's Georgetown, KY plant. So far, this idea has been met with positive feedback and enthusiasm. Before I commit to ink and paper and officially submit this to TMMNA, TMMK and TMS (entities within Toyota that hold key approvals to getting this moving); I'd like to get a feel for who might be attending. (In an effort to save space and keep the discussion positive, please don't respond if you will not attend.)
Let me stress; this is no easy undertaking. I understand what is involved and have personal and professional relationships with key members at Toyota. For those of you who wish to express "doom and gloom" on how "it's been tried before, yada, yada, yada ..." please just withold your comments or feel free to pass them along in a PM to me. If you members are willing to show up, then this WILL happen.
I will do similar checks with ToyotaNation and any (and every) other Toyota related forum I can find. I will try to leave links at each one leading back to SolaraGuy for the latest details.
In order to succeed, this must ba an ALL Toyota meet. (Not just for Solaras.) I don't care if it's a Supra, a Scion tC, a GS430, a Sienna , a Land Cruiser or a Solara. The point is to bring us all together and have a good showing.
The concept
- This is a chance for Toyota owners to make a pilgrimage to meet.
- We will propose to Toyota to host guided tours of their TMMK facility. (Toyota already does this and has dedicated trams and personnel for this. We would ask Toyota to staff this during the event.)
- Car show with several different classes.
- Hire a Professional DJ to keep the party rocking.
- Possibly have food available for purchase from local businesses or the cafeteria at TMMK.
- Seek out parts donations from Toyota, aftermarket suppliers , etc..
- Raffle prizes.
- Request TMS to send their Scion tC and xB show cars.
(We will ask for donations from local businesses, Toyota and vendors to support costs.) Hopefully we can avoid an entry fee.
Place: Parking Lot of Toyota's Georgetown, KY plant. (Where they make the Camry, Solara and Avalon.)
Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky (TMMK)
1001 Cherry Blossom Way
Georgetown, KY 40324
Date: September 2006
- This much time is need to orgainze the event
- Avoid the "Dog Days" of August. It can get hot in KY.
- Avoid the typical vacation season and the Labor Day Holiday weekend.
- Hold the event late enough in the year to have the new Camry available and the Gen 2.5 Solara.
- The actual event day may depend on Toyota. (If they are working Saturdays that weekend)
- Avoid conflicts with other major shows. (NOPI Nationals, Super Street Tour, etc..)
VOLUNTEERS
If there is interest; I will need to form volunteer teams. (Divide up the responsibilities to clear manageable tasks) and meet via my toll free conference call number once a month. (Or more frequent if necessary.) The kind of tasks at hand are:
- Securing approval with Toyota for the Event (Me)
- Spreading the word to other forums. (Divide up and each be a point person for a forum)
- Organizing a list of attendeed (registrations)
- Meeting with local businesses to get participation.
- Meeting / contacting vendors to attend or donate. (In exchange for advertising)
- Working with Toyota to get involvement from TMS. (and TRD) (Me)
- Finding a local DJ
- Photos
- Negotiate reduced rate lodging from local hotels.
- Food
- Prizes
- Security (Ask Toyota to Provide
- Any tents
- Media (Local TV/Cable & Magazines)
- Etc..
Attending or working the event can be a lot of fun. I hope you find this interesting and will consider participating.
Please post up any positive comments you have and if you'd be attending.
Feel free to PM me with any comments.
For those of you on the left coast, I have not forgotten about you. If this goes well, I'd like to look at doing a similar event either at Toyota's Torrance, CA (LA area) facility or their NUMMI facility in Fremont, CA. (San Fran area). We'd alternate East and West every other year unless someone wants to head up the west coast events.
AGAIN: THIS IS UNOFFICIAL TILL WE HAVE GOOD FEEDBACK BY MID JANUARY, THEN I'LL GO FORWARD.
