Manual Trans Problems

Manual Trans Problems

Postby Buford » Tue Apr 13, 2004 9:01 pm

I just picked up a 2002 SE V6 manual transmission Solara with 22k mi on it on March 31. There was a rumbling in third gear and took it in to have it looked at. I was told me I needed a new transmission. It's under warranty and certified, but now they have come back and said all they want to do is repair the trans... Have any of you heard of any problems with the manual trans? I've looked for service buletins and recalls and couldn't find anything but if I can't get them to replace the trans I'm going to unload this thing as soon as they repair it. In my eyes it will be a problem waiting to happen when you have new compents mixed with the old.

I think your dealer is just trying to scam you. Why would they recommend a new tranny then after finding its still covered by warranty they now only want to fix it. As far as you selling your car or "unload" it, I think you are just paranoid, Toyota's make reliable cars.

i haven't heard of any service bullentins on this matter. sounds like a isolated problem, if it's under warr. they should replace the whole unit & not repair. doesn't sound right to me! curious to know outcome of this!
i own a 2000 se v6 5spd with 51k no problem
