Welcome from about 2 hrs. south of your location! Actually, my grandparents live in South Bend and my dad graduated from Washington HS. Now that you’re totally creeped out, enjoy the forum. :D

It may be called Solara Guy, but it's a Camry board, too! Welcome.
Please stop humping my car, owner privilege!

Thanks for the welcomes :) Yeah, mine's been a toyota family for the past couple decades, so I'm sorta familiar with the solara. In fact, right now my dad is trying to decide on whether he wants to get a solara or an mr2 for his "twilight years" :)

TadS: Yo, I think I saw you when you registered on TN awhile back. Wondered how far away your town was from SB.

Also, I've seen two Solaras with TRD badging around town... anyone from the board? Both were like 00s, one was white, the other red.

There is a guy here that is in "Northern Indiana" but no idea where. Fletch where you at man? Anyway, if you want to find my town, plot a point on I-65 between Lafayette and Merrivile/Hobart. It's a town of about 3000 people and maybe 10 Toyotas  .

As for an all Toyota meet my brother and I are both interested. He has his "new" 5S-FE MR-2 that we're going to be working on over the winter.

Welcome. There's actually a lot of information here that would pertain to your car. As for your dad's choice of MR2 or Solara, it depends on how sporty of a car he wants. I think the older MR2's, like '92 '93, are really great cars, especially with turbos. I see that people are now swapping the 1MZFE engines into them, which has got to really give them a lot of potential. Of course, your dad may not be into modding his car!

Yah, I'm not really into the newer style MR2s, but that's what he's looking at. Basically he wants something that's going to be both fun to drive and reliable. No modding for him... yet. He did race his Olds 442 back in the day, so who knows... ;)

But yeah, I'd be game for any IN or Chicago meets. Actually, I was thinking of trying to set up a meet and like Gingerman sometime in the spring. Never been there before, but it sounds like a nice course.

The first generation Solara's stock suspension was way too soft for the car to be a truly "fun to drive" car. With some suspension tweaking, that can be changed, though. From what I read on this forum, the SE version of the 2004 Solara has a firmer suspension than the previous generation, so maybe that would qualify. The Solara is certainly reliable.
